Indiranagar, Bangalore (On-site)
Full-time | US Business Hours
Experience: 3–5+ years
At MOBILISE, we work as an extension of our clients’ marketing teams. Our clients rely on us to deliver communication that is clear, accurate, consistent, and aligned with their brand across different formats, audiences, and markets.
We’re looking for an Editorial Proofreader with professional experience in proofreading, editing, and editorial quality control, preferably gained within a publishing house, newspaper, magazine, journal, digital publication, or newsroom.
This is primarily a proofreading and editorial quality role—not a general copywriting position. You will review both written content and designed marketing assets, identify language and factual issues, check work against briefs and source documents, and ensure every deliverable is ready for client review or publication.
The role also requires sound editorial judgement. You should be able to recognise when something is grammatically correct but still unclear, inconsistent, unsupported, or unsuitable for the intended audience.
What you’ll do
- Proofread and quality-check content and marketing assets before client delivery or publication.
- Review EDMs, landing pages, articles, white papers, eBooks, case studies, social posts, presentations, one-pagers, brochures, digital advertisements, print assets, and video scripts.
- Check grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, sentence structure, readability, and overall editorial quality.
- Improve clarity, structure, flow, and consistency without unnecessarily rewriting the content or changing its intended meaning.
- Verify designed assets against approved copy, briefs, source documents, and client feedback.
- Identify missing content, incorrect formatting, broken or incorrect links, version mismatches, and factual discrepancies.
- Ensure every asset follows the relevant client’s brand, language, and editorial guidelines.
- Apply US English, UK English, and client-specific editorial conventions accurately.
- Check terminology, capitalisation, formatting, dates, statistics, product names, and calls to action for consistency.
- Understand campaign briefs and verify that final outputs address the intended objective, audience and requirements.
- Review technical and business content while protecting its accuracy and intended meaning.
- Identify vague statements, unsupported claims, inconsistencies, and information that requires clarification.
- Provide clear, actionable feedback and follow corrections through to completion.
- Work closely with writers, designers, web teams, client services, and project managers across multiple accounts.
- Maintain editorial checklists, client style guides, terminology lists, and quality-control processes.
- Support rewriting, content adaptation, and limited writing requirements when projects require them.
- Manage multiple reviews and tight delivery timelines without compromising accuracy.
What we’re looking for
- 3-5 (or more) years of professional experience in proofreading, sub-editing, content editing, or editorial quality control.
- Experience within a publishing house, newspaper, magazine, journal, digital publication, newsroom, or professional editorial team.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing and correcting content written by other people.
- Comfortable working in US business hours.
- Willing to work full-time from our Indiranagar office.
- Excellent command of written English, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify subtle errors and inconsistencies quickly.
- The ability to improve content without unnecessarily changing the writer’s voice or intended meaning.
- Experience working with style guides, editorial standards, and different language conventions.
- Good research, fact-checking, and source-verification skills.
- The judgement to distinguish between a correction, an editorial recommendation, and a change that requires clarification or approval.
- The ability to review designed communication assets as well as text documents.
- Familiarity with reviewing different brands, styles, tones, and content formats.
- Confidence working with cross-functional content, creative, digital, and project teams.
- The ability to manage multiple assignments, changing priorities, and quick turnaround times.
- Comfort working with technical or business subject matter, or a strong willingness to learn.
Experience within a marketing, advertising or creative agency would be practical but is not mandatory. B2B or technology marketing experience would be an added advantage. Please share samples demonstrating your proofreading or editorial work. Before-and-after editing samples are strongly preferred. If your published work is confidential, shortlisted candidates should be willing to complete a short proofreading and editorial review assessment.
A portfolio consisting only of original blogs, advertising copy or social media posts will not, by itself, demonstrate suitability for this role.
More than qualifications, we’re looking for someone who takes ownership of editorial quality. Someone who notices when a sentence is unclear, a fact needs verification, a correction has not been implemented, or a designed asset does not match the approved content—and takes the initiative to address it.
The right person will be thorough without unnecessarily slowing the work down, confident without being rigid, and able to provide constructive feedback that helps the wider team improve.
