YOUR NEW ROLE
Domain Expert in Market Surveillance sits at the intersection of financial markets, regulatory compliance, surveillance technology, data analytics, investigations, and business change delivery. The role is more strategic than operational as it requires deep understanding of market abuse risks, trading behaviours, communication channels, regulations, surveillance platforms, and investigation processes.
This role would act as the bridge between Compliance, Front Office, Surveillance Operations, Risk, Technology, Data Engineering and Model Development.
Product Ownership & Strategy
- Define and manage Markets Surveillance backlog - Epics, user stories, and technical enablers.
- Partner with Engineering Managers, Principal Engineers to align with broader systems architecture, API and Event strategy, and data governance frameworks.
- Contribute to the product roadmap, aligning modern cloud software solutions with enterprise business strategy.
- Ensure data quality, security, and compliance across Markets Surveillance.
- Surveillance Effectiveness - Risk coverage, Detection capability and Regulatory confidence
- Alert Quality - False positive reduction & True positive improvement
- Regulatory Compliance - Examination outcomes, Audit findings and Remediation closure
Delivery & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Ensure deliverables meet business outcomes and programme timeframes.
- Ensure alignment between business stakeholders and enterprise technical teams.
- Proactively manage cross-system dependencies and communicate risks to leadership.
- Compliance satisfaction, Investigator feedback and Management confidence
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to simplify the application and systems landscape through product or process simplification, modernisation of technology tools and the reduction of technical debt.
- Manage Product risk through early detection of product and disclosure flaws, monitoring products with metrics that demonstrate consumer outcomes and regulatory compliance
Capabilities
Trade Surveillance
- Market abuse detection (Spoofing, Layering, Wash Trades, Insider Trading, Front Running)
- Trading lifecycle and market structure expertise
- Alert design, tuning, and optimization
Communications Surveillance
- Monitoring of Email, Teams, Voice, Messaging Platforms
- Conduct risk, information barrier, collusion, and MNPI detection
- Lexicon, NLP, and AI-based surveillance approaches
Business & Technology
- Regulatory requirement interpretation
- Business analysis and requirements management
- Data analysis (SQL, BI, Analytics)
- Surveillance platform expertise (Actimize, SMARTS, Behavox, etc.)
- UAT, change delivery, and stakeholder management
What You'll Bring
- 15+ years in Market Surveillance, Compliance, Financial Markets,
or Capital Markets Technology
- Demonstrated experience working on large scale transformation projects containing multiple streams, products and channels
- Strong knowledge of MAR, MiFID II, FCA, SEC, FINRA and other regulatory frameworks
- Background in Finance, Economics, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or Risk
- Strong stakeholder, business and technology capability
- Demonstrated Robust ability to influence across Domains and technology
- Ability to innovate and grasp new skills
Qualification Requirements
- Relevant degree or tertiary qualification highly regarded.
- Preferred certifications: CFA, FRM, ICA, CBAP, ACAMS
