: Azure Database Engineer

Role Summary The Azure Database Engineer is responsible for migrating, modernizing, and optimizing on premises databases into Azure database platforms such as Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure PostgreSQL/MySQL (as applicable). The role focuses on assessment, schema conversion, data migration, performance tuning, and ensuring secure, resilient, and scalable database operations in Azure. The engineer collaborates with application teams, data engineers, and cloud architects to deliver high quality, cloud ready database solutions that support the overall migration program.

Location- Bangalore , Chennai, Pune

Key Responsibilities

- Assess on-prem databases (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.) for migration readiness and cloud suitability.
- Design and implement migration plans using Azure SQL, Managed Instance, or other Azure database services.
- Perform schema conversion, data movement, and validation using Azure Migrate, DMS, SSIS, or custom scripts.
- Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, partitioning, and resource configuration.
- Implement backup, restore, HA/DR, and security configurations aligned with Azure best practices.
- Troubleshoot database issues, connectivity problems, and performance bottlenecks across environments.
- Collaborate with application and data teams to ensure compatibility and functional validation post‑migration.
- Automate deployment and configuration using ARM/Bicep/Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.
- Maintain documentation for database architecture,



migration steps, and operational procedures.
- Support cutover activities, data reconciliation, and production readiness for migration waves.

Required Skills

- Expertize in database engineering, administration, or development.
- Solid hands on experience with SQL Server (queries, stored procedures, indexing, performance tuning).
- Experience migrating on prem databases to Azure SQL, Managed Instance, or equivalent Azure DB services.
- Solid understanding of database architecture, normalization, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
- Hands on experience with data migration tools (DMS, SSIS, BACPAC, native backups, scripts).
- Knowledge of HA/DR concepts (Always On, failover groups, geo replication).
- Familiarity with Azure networking, identity, and security for database connectivity.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (ARM, Bicep, Terraform) for DB provisioning.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across SQL, performance, and cloud connectivity.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills for cross team collaboration.

Nice‑to‑Have Skills

- Experience with Azure PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Cosmos DB.
- Knowledge of ETL/ELT tools (ADF, Databricks) for end‑to‑end data integration.
- Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD for database deployments.
- Understanding of data governance, lineage, and cataloging tools.
- Experience with monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Query Store).
- Azure certifications (DP‑300, DP‑203, or Architect‑level certifications).
