We are hiring a part time tutor to teach critical thinking, reading comprehension, and philosophy to two students, aged 10 and 11, through live online sessions. Sessions run on US morning hours, which falls in the evening and night in India, Monday to Friday.

These three subjects sit together for a reason. A student who can work out what a difficult passage is actually saying is doing the same thing as a student who can take an argument apart, and both are doing the same thing as a student who can sit with a hard question without reaching for the easy answer. We want one person who sees them as one skill and teaches them that way.

The philosophy side leans toward the Stoics. Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, Seneca. Not taught as history, but as a way of thinking a 10-year-old can actually use.

This is not a lecture role. Most of each session is the student reading, thinking out loud, and defending a position while you push back.

What you will do

- Run live online sessions with two students, aged 10 and 11, Monday to Friday
- Teach students to read a difficult passage and work out what the author is actually saying, including what is implied and what is left out
- Build the habit of questioning a claim, testing an argument, and spotting weak reasoning
- Introduce Stoic philosophy in a form a child can use, and connect it to how they handle setbacks, focus, and their own reactions




- Choose age-appropriate texts and build a progression across the term rather than teaching one-off lessons
- Give direct, specific feedback in a way that keeps a child willing to be wrong out loud
- Document student progress in our internal dashboard
- Use and help integrate AI tools into lesson preparation and teaching

What we are looking for

- Experience teaching reading comprehension, critical thinking, philosophy, debate, or humanities to children
- A real grounding in philosophy, including Stoic philosophy, and the ability to explain it plainly without diluting it
- Excellent command of spoken English, suitable for teaching American students
- Ability to run a discussion where the student does most of the talking
- Comfort using technology for online teaching and an interest in using AI tools to enhance learning
- Availability Monday to Friday on US morning hours

Preferred

- Has previously taught students between the ages of 10 and 15
- Has taught international students
- Understands how to devise curriculums and lesson plans rather than working from someone else's material

Nice to have

- A background in literature, classics, law, or another discipline built on close reading and argument
- Experience running Socratic discussion or debate coaching

Details

- Location: Remote, India
- Hours: 4 to 6 hours per week, Monday to Friday, evening and night IST
- Rate: 500 rupees per hour
