We are looking for a Calypso Lead Developer with 6+ years of experience specialising in Calypso API development and Core Java customisation. You will lead the design, development, and delivery of Calypso-based solutions — building robust API integrations, custom extensions, and platform enhancements across our capital markets technology estate. You will combine deep Calypso platform expertise with strong Core Java and API development skills — delivering high-quality, scalable, and maintainable solutions that support trading, risk, back office, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Calypso API & Core Java Development Lead the design and development of Calypso API integrations — building robust, performant REST and Calypso-native API solutions that connect Calypso with internal and external systems. Develop complex Calypso customisations using Core Java — extending Calypso platform functionality for bespoke trading, back office, and accounting requirements. Design and implement Calypso event-driven integrations — configuring message-based interfaces using MQ, JMS, and SWIFT for real-time and batch data exchange.
Build and maintain Calypso plugin extensions — developing custom calculators, workflow actions, and business logic extensions aligned to capital markets business requirements. Design and develop RESTful APIs that expose Calypso data and functionality to downstream consumers — risk systems, reporting platforms, and front office applications. Lead code reviews — enforcing Calypso development standards, Core Java best practices, and API design principles across the development team.
Mentor and guide junior Calypso developers — sharing platform expertise, Java development skills, and capital markets domain knowledge. Calypso Platform Configuration & Integration Configure and maintain Calypso modules — trade capture, back office, accounting, and risk — aligned to business and regulatory requirements.
Design and implement Calypso interface configurations — SWIFT, FIX, MQ, XML, and REST — connecting Calypso with front office, risk, finance, and external counterparty systems. Manage Calypso static data configuration — counterparty, product, account, and workflow definitions — ensuring accuracy and consistency across environments.
Support Calypso platform upgrades — conducting impact assessments, updating customisations, and validating functional integrity across version transitions.
Implement Calypso batch processing workflows — scheduling, dependency management, and failure handling for end-of-day and intraday processing cycles.
Conduct
Calypso performance tuning — optimising API response times, batch processing throughput, and database query performance for high-volume capital markets workloads.
Technical
Architecture & Delivery Contribute to technical architecture decisions — providing Calypso API and Core Java expertise to solution design, integration patterns, and platform evolution discussions.
Design scalable, maintainable integration architectures — applying microservices patterns, event-driven design, and API-first principles to Calypso integration solutions. Write and maintain comprehensive unit and integration tests — JUnit, Mockito — ensuring code quality and regression confidence across all Calypso customisations and API solutions.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Calypso development — automating build, test, and deployment workflows using Jenkins or GitLab CI. Produce explicit technical documentation — API specifications, integration designs, customisation guides, and deployment runbooks. Collaborate with Solution Architects, Business Analysts, and Operations teams — translating capital markets business requirements into well-designed Calypso technical solutions.
Capital Markets Domain Apply strong capital markets domain knowledge — financial instruments (fixed income, FX, derivatives, equities, repos), trade lifecycle, and back office processes — to design accurate, fit-for-purpose Calypso solutions. Support front office, middle office, risk, and finance teams — providing Calypso API and technical expertise to resolve data, integration, and platform issues.
Contribute to regulatory reporting initiatives — MiFID II, EMIR,
APRA — designing Calypso API solutions that accurately extract and deliver regulatory data to reporting platforms.
What We're Looking For 6+ years of Calypso platform development experience with deep expertise in Core Java customisation and API development in capital markets environments.
Strong Core
Java skills — advanced OOP, design patterns, multithreading, and performance optimisation — applied to Calypso platform customisation and extension development.
Proven Calypso API development experience — REST API design and development, Calypso-native API integration, and event-driven interface implementation. Deep Calypso platform knowledge — trade capture, back office, accounting, and risk modules — with strong understanding of Calypso architecture and customisation framework. Strong capital markets domain knowledge — financial instruments, trade lifecycle, back office operations, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Advanced SQL skills — Oracle / PostgreSQL — complex querying, stored procedures, and performance tuning for Calypso database layers.
Experience with messaging technologies — MQ, JMS, SWIFT — for Calypso interface and integration development. Hands-on CI/CD experience — Jenkins or GitLab CI — for automated Calypso build, test, and deployment pipelines. Proven technical leadership — leading Calypso development teams, conducting code reviews, and mentoring junior developers. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills — engaging business, operations, and technology stakeholders effectively.
Nice to Have
Spring Boot experience — building microservices and REST APIs alongside Calypso integrations. Knowledge of FIX protocol — order and execution data integration with Calypso.
Experience with cloud platforms — AWS or Azure — for Calypso infrastructure hosting and API deployment. Familiarity with Calypso collateral management and regulatory reporting modules. Knowledge of APRA regulatory reporting requirements and Australian market conventions. Exposure to containerisation — Docker / Kubernetes — for Calypso API microservices deployment. Calypso certification or formal Calypso training programme completion.
Experience in Investment Banking, Capital Markets, or Asset Management environments.
