Role Overview
We are hiring for two levels
- Intern: 0–6 months experience
- Software Engineer: 1–2 years of relevant robotics software development experience
You will contribute across the complete robotics software stack — operator interfaces, high-performance back-end robotics software, and the networking/communication layer connecting robots to Ground Control Stations (GCS) — working closely with embedded hardware and autonomy teams. Location: Hyderabad, Telangana (Balanagar area)
Job Type: Onsite, Full-time
Domain: Defence - Robotics, Autonomous Systems, IoT Systems, Fire Control Systems, and Training Simulators
Work Requirement: Candidate must carry their own laptop for work
About Vir Innovations
We are a Hyderabad-headquartered product development company specializing in defence technology. We design and build advanced robotic systems including Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) with manual and autonomous navigation, Remote Controlled Weapon Systems (RCWS), robotic arm payloads, EO-IR computer vision systems, and IoT-based applications such as fire detection & suppression systems — all engineered to strengthen national security.
Our core values — Passion, Integrity, Innovation, Quality, and Growth — shape a culture where engineers work across the full stack, from embedded hardware to autonomy software, on systems that are actually fielded.
Key Responsibilities
Operator Interface (Front-End)
- Develop Qt/QML-based Ground Control Station (GCS) applications
- Design intuitive operator dashboards for robot monitoring and control
- Integrate live telemetry, maps, and video feeds into the operator interface
Robotics Software (Back-End)
- Develop high-performance robotics applications in C++ and Python on Linux
- Implement autonomy, robot control, perception, and hardware integration
- Build modular, reliable, real-time software architectures
Networking & Communication
- Design and implement TCP/UDP-based communication between robots and GCS
- Develop low-latency video streaming pipelines using OpenCV
- Implement UART communication with STM32-based embedded controllers
- Optimize communication reliability and latency for field deployment
Mandatory Requirements
1. Strong proficiency in C++ (must-have)
2. Robotics fundamentals — kinematics, control systems
3. Solid understanding of data structures & algorithms, multithreading/concurrency, and memory management
4. Comfortable working in a Linux development environment
5. Experience working on real robotic systems or complex system-level projects (not just prototypes/scripts)
Preferred Skills
- Computer vision (OpenCV)
- Networking (TCP/UDP, ROS networking)
- GUI development (Qt/QML, PyQt, RViz plugins)
- Simulation experience
- Active GitHub / project portfolio
- Exposure to reinforcement learning or imitation learning (bonus, not core)
What We Look For
- Engineers who build real robotic systems, not just prototypes or scripts
- Strong fundamentals over buzzwords
- Ability to work across software + hardware integration boundaries
- Genuine interest in robotics and defence technology
Not a fit for: pure web development backgrounds (React/Angular/Node.js), notebook-only AI/ML profiles without deployment experience, or candidates without robust C++/systems fundamentals.
Compensation and Career Progression
Intern (0–6 months experience)
- Intern (first 6 months): ₹15,000-18,000month
- Trainee (next 6 months): ₹20,000/month (based on performance)
- Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) eligibility as Junior Software Engineer after 12 months
- Junior Software Engineer salary: ₹22,000–₹25,000/month (based on performance and technical evaluation)
Software Engineer (1–2 years experience)
- Up to ₹5 LPA, subject to experience and technical evaluation
Final offers for both tracks are determined by relevant robotics/C++ experience and technical assessment.
