Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced API Management Engineer with 5–8 years of experience to design, implement, and support a highly available and secure enterprise API Management platform.
The role will focus on API Gateway, API policies, security, analytics, caching, messaging, and high availability architecture across EMEA and AMER regions. The candidate will work closely with architects, developers, DevOps, security, and application teams in an Agile delivery environment.
Core Technical Competencies
- API Management / API Gateway – Strong experience in enterprise API gateway implementation, configuration, routing, throttling, transformation, and lifecycle management.
- Control Plane – Experience with API policy administration, API configuration, monitoring, and analytics.
- Data Plane – Hands on experience managing distributed API Gateway environments across multiple regions.
- Azure API Management – Strong knowledge of Azure API Management services, policies, products, subscriptions, APIs, and backends.
- API Security – Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, TLS 1.3, authentication, authorization, and API security best practices.
- High Availability – Experience designing Active Active, stateless, multi region API architectures.
- Azure Cache – Experience with distributed caching, transient data, read only caching, and cache management.
- Azure Service Bus – Experience with queues, asynchronous messaging, retry mechanisms, and event driven integration.
- REST APIs – Strong understanding of RESTful API design, integration, versioning, and lifecycle management.
- API Monitoring & Analytics – Experience with API metrics, logging, monitoring, alerts, and performance analysis.
- DevOps / CI/CD – Experience automating API deployment and configuration using CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and maintain enterprise API Management and API Gateway platforms.
- Manage API Gateway deployments across EMEA and AMER using highly available Active Active architecture.
- Configure API policies for security, authentication, authorization, throttling, routing, transformation, and error handling.
- Implement secure API access using OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, and TLS 1.3.
- Manage API lifecycle including onboarding, versioning, deployment, monitoring, and retirement.
- Configure and optimize Azure Cache for transient and read only data scenarios.
- Implement Azure Service Bus queues for asynchronous API and application communication.
- Configure API monitoring, analytics, logging, dashboards, and alerts.
- Troubleshoot API gateway, integration, performance, and connectivity issues.
- Implement automation for API configuration and deployments through Azure DevOps CI/CD.
- Ensure API solutions meet enterprise security, performance, scalability, and availability standards.
- Collaborate with Architects, Developers, Security, DevOps, QA, and business teams.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and continuous improvement initiatives.
Good to Have
- Experience with Azure API Management Premium / multi region deployments.
- Knowledge of Azure Application Gateway, Front Door, Key Vault, and Entra ID.
- Experience with Terraform / ARM / Bicep for Infrastructure as Code.
- Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with API testing tools such as Postman.
- Knowledge of OpenAPI / Swagger specifications.
- Experience with API security standards and OWASP API Security.
- Experience with observability tools such as Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Grafana, or equivalent.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5–8 years of hands-on experience in API Management / API Gateway technologies.
- Strong practical experience with Azure API Management, API Security, REST APIs, API Policies, Caching, Service Bus, Monitoring, and CI/CD.
- Experience designing secure, scalable, stateless, and highly available multi region API platforms.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
