About us:
Integra Robotics develops modular robotic systems for industrial automation, inspection, material handling and operations in hazardous or difficult-to-access environments. Its portfolio spans collaborative robotic arms, end-of-arm tooling, underwater manipulators and mobile robotic platforms. A shared architecture combines mechanical systems, electronics, controls, teleoperation and simulation, with a roadmap towards increasingly autonomous operation.
Join a multidisciplinary team translating robotics engineering into practical products and customer applications. These openings support commercial adoption and the digital assets used to demonstrate, simulate and refine robotic systems.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of hands-on 3D modelling and model-rigging experience specifically involving robotics.
Work arrangement: Mandatory work from the office. Flexible working hours, Monday–Friday, coordinated with engineering reviews and project deadlines.
Office location: Integra Robotics (Research & Fabrication) Space.
Role purpose:
Create mechanically accurate, articulated 3D assets for robotic arms, grippers, underwater manipulators and mobile platforms. Support product visualisation, customer demonstrations, immersive teleoperation interfaces and simulation workflows in collaboration with mechanical, robotics and software engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and refine hard-surface robot models from engineering CAD, drawings, dimensions and physical references while preserving component identity and assembly structure.
- Create mechanical rigs with correct pivots, local axes, parent–child relationships, degrees of freedom and joint limits; apply forward and inverse kinematics where appropriate.
- Animate manipulation, gripping, assembly and mobility sequences with plausible motion; avoid unintended deformation of rigid robot parts and check for visible interpenetration.
- Convert detailed CAD into productive real-time assets through mesh cleanup, retopology, UV mapping, material setup and level-of-detail optimisation.
- Prepare organised visual meshes, simplified collision geometry and link-based asset structures; work with engineers to validate robot descriptions and physical parameters.
- Import and test assets in the team’s real-time or simulation environment; resolve scale, orientation, hierarchy, material and animation-transfer issues.
- Produce product renders, exploded views and demonstration sequences that accurately communicate mechanisms and applications.
- Maintain reusable asset libraries, naming conventions, revision history and handover notes; update models when engineering designs change.
Required Skills:
- At least 1 year of relevant robotics modelling and rigging experience, supported by a portfolio showing articulated robot models and the applicant’s own contribution.
- Proficiency in Blender, Autodesk Maya or an equivalent 3D package for both hard-surface modelling and mechanical rigging; mastery of one primary package is sufficient.
- Understanding of rigid-body articulation, revolute and prismatic joints, joint hierarchies, coordinate systems, scale, transforms and FK/IK rig behaviour.
- Practical ability in topology cleanup, UVs, physically based materials, lighting and efficient asset preparation.
- Ability to interpret CAD assemblies or engineering drawings, incorporate technical feedback and deliver clean, editable project files.
Software & Tools:
- Core: Blender or Autodesk Maya for modelling, rigging and animation.
- Preferred: Unreal Engine, including Control Rig and Sequencer, for interactive assets and animation; Unity experience is also relevant.
- Preferred: SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion or an equivalent CAD tool for inspecting assemblies and preparing geometry for the 3D pipeline.
- Preferred: NVIDIA Isaac Sim or Gazebo, plus familiarity with ROS 2 and URDF/Xacro, for robotics asset integration. These are additional skills, not requirements to be an expert robotics developer.
- Useful: FBX and glTF/GLB asset exchange, USD scene workflows, and awareness of the difference between visual animation rigs and physics-based robot articulations.
- Useful: Substance 3D Painter for materials; Python for repetitive asset tasks; Git/Git LFS or Perforce for collaborative asset versioning.
Preferred background & success measure:
A qualification in 3D animation, game art, industrial design, mechanical engineering or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent portfolio-backed experience is welcome. Robotics simulation, digital-twin, VR or industrial visualisation projects will be valued.
Success will be assessed through mechanical fidelity, correct articulation, reliable imports, visual quality, real-time performance against project budgets, asset reusability and timely delivery. Physical parameters and operational behaviour should be reviewed with engineering.
For sharing (IMPORTANT)
Portfolio or showreel containing robotics work. Include at least one articulated robot example with a rig or hierarchy breakdown, joint-motion demonstration, software used and your specific contribution. Include current location, notice period and compensation expectations. Share only work you are authorised to disclose.
