MAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into senior, high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies.
The companies we partner with are venture-backed and private equity-backed businesses building modern finance organizations, and the professionals we represent are operators with a track record of owning the numbers rather than supporting them from a distance.
The roles we place are embedded positions within the finance function itself. Our team has built and scaled finance functions at companies including Lyft, Ramp, and SoftBank. We remain closely involved throughout the relationship, from role alignment and interview preparation through onboarding, placement, and long-term career development.
We are seeking an experienced Chief Accountant to own the accounting function of a high-growth US company, working remotely from India.
This is the senior accounting seat in the business, and it remains substantively hands-on. You will be accountable for the accuracy of the financial statements, the discipline of the close, the strength of the control environment, and the readiness of the company for its audit. Where the company has outgrown the processes that carried it this far — a close held together by one person's memory, a control environment that exists in principle rather than in practice, a reconciliation that has not been cleared in three quarters — you will be the person who rebuilds them.
You will work directly with the CEO, the US finance leadership, and the department heads whose decisions depend on your numbers. A significant part of the role is translating accounting information into something people outside finance can act on, and doing so before they ask for it.
Because you will be the most senior accounting person in the company and located outside the United States, the role calls for someone who operates well with autonomy, communicates proactively rather than on request, and holds both the technical detail and the operating picture without a layer above them to catch what falls through.
The Close and Financial Reporting
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, with full accountability for the calendar, the quality of the output, and the cycle time.
The financial statements. Technical accounting. Research, document, and conclude on technical positions, and maintain the memoranda that support them.
Own multi-entity accounting, intercompany balances, eliminations, and foreign currency translation across the group structure.
Policies and controls. Establish and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, approval workflows, and reporting standards appropriate to the company's stage, and enforce them once established.
Risk communication. Identify accounting, control, and compliance risks early, and bring them to senior stakeholders with a recommendation attached rather than a question.
Audit
The annual audit. Lead the audit or review end to end, including auditor management, PBC preparation, and resolution of findings through to close-out.
Manage the relationship with external auditors, tax advisers, and outsourced accounting partners, holding each to agreed standards and deadlines.
Accounting Operations
Own the general ledger, AP, AR, payroll accounting, and expense processing, holding each to defined turnaround and accuracy standards.
Reconciliations. Own the balance sheet reconciliation process and the resolution of ageing items, rather than the reporting of them.
The accounting team. Review, mentor, and develop the accounting team, and raise the standard of the work that reaches you.
Finance systems. Lead ERP selection, implementation, and migration, alongside AP, expense, and close-management automation.
Build accounting processes that improve accuracy, visibility, and cycle time as the company grows, rather than processes that break at the next stage.
8–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including direct review and development of an accounting team
~ Experience operating as a Financial Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior Accounting Manager, with demonstrated ownership of the close and the financial statements on an independent basis
~ familiarity with stock-based compensation (ASC 718) is an advantage
~ Experience leading an audit or review, including direct management of external auditors through to resolution of findings
~ Experience with multi-entity accounting, consolidation, and intercompany elimination
~ A track record of designing accounting processes and controls from the ground up, or of taking on underperforming processes and rebuilding them
~ Substantial ERP experience with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, or a comparable platform, alongside familiarity with contemporary finance tooling such as Ramp, Brex, Bill.Advanced Excel or Google Sheets, including the modelling and analysis a lean function depends on
~ Experience working remotely with US-based leadership, auditors, and CPA firms, with the communication discipline that arrangement requires
~ Excellent written and verbal English, with the confidence to hold the room in a leadership or audit setting
~ Chartered Accountant (ICAI), CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent professional qualification strongly preferred
~ Big 4 or comparable public accounting experience followed by industry experience preferred
~ Experience at a venture-backed or PE-backed US company, particularly from Seed through Series C, preferred
~ Direct experience carrying a first audit or an ERP implementation end to end is highly regarded
~ SaaS or recurring-revenue experience, including deferred revenue and the mechanics of ARR, is a significant advantage
~ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
This role is well suited to an accounting leader who wants to own a function outright rather than administer one part of it.
You build the discipline the company needs at each stage instead of waiting for it to be handed to you, and you are equally credible in a room with a CEO, an auditor, and a junior accountant.
Own an entire accounting function, end to end, with direct exposure to US founders and senior leadership
Build the accounting infrastructure of a growing company rather than maintaining someone else's
Gain end-to-end exposure to ERP transformation, controls, audit, and team leadership in a single seat
Progress toward Head of Finance and Fractional CFO opportunities through MAVI
Join a curated global network of senior finance and accounting professionals
This is a fully remote role based in India. You will be placed with a single US client company for the duration of the engagement rather than rotated across accounts, and you will work directly with US-based leadership, auditors, and external partners.
The role requires a structured afternoon-to-evening schedule, with a firm daily overlap against US Eastern business hours. This is a genuine commitment rather than occasional late calls, and we would rather you assess it honestly now than three rounds from here.
