Role & responsibilities
A. Management Systems (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001)
- Act as MR for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001; maintain certification(s) without major non-conformances and drive extension to any currently uncertified unit.
- Develop and control a common EHS Manual, SOPs, Work Instructions and Legal Registers, with unit-specific annexures for MVFPL (foundry/die-casting), MMPL (machining/EOU) and MEPL (forging-fed machining & assembly).
- Establish one internal audit calendar covering all three units; train a cross-functional pool of internal auditors drawn from each unit.
- Consolidate and present a single monthly EHS dashboard (KPIs, audit findings, legal compliance status by unit) to the Managing Director / Group Director.
- Maintain three separate legal compliance trackers (one per entity/factory license) while running one common review cadence, to avoid any single unit's renewal or return deadline being missed.
B. Environmental Management (Foundry, Die-Casting, Machining & Forging-Fed Operations)
- Waste Management: Oversee disposal of foundry waste sand (green/resin-coated sand), furnace slag, baghouse dust, spent shot-blast media (MVFPL); machining swarf and spent coolant/soluble oil (MMPL, MEPL); and forging scale/trim scrap where applicable (MEPL).
- Air Quality & Emissions: Ensure upkeep of pollution control equipment baghouse dust collectors, wet scrubbers, cyclone separators on induction furnaces and shot-blasting/die-casting lines. Monitor stack emissions, ambient air and silica dust (PM2.5/PM10) per MPCB norms.
- Water & Wastewater: Oversee ETP/cooling-water management for induction furnace and die-casting quench systems; manage rainwater harvesting and groundwater compliance.
- Regulatory Liaison: Handle CTE/CTO renewals, Hazardous Waste returns (Form 4), Environmental Statement (Form V) and annual returns — separately for MVFPL, MMPL and MEPL — and coordinate MPCB inspections/sampling for all three.
C. Occupational Health & Safety
- Molten Metal & Die-Casting Safety (MVFPL): Protocols for induction furnace operation,
ladle preheating, metal transfer, pouring and die-casting shot cycles, to prevent explosions (moisture control), burns and metal-splash injuries. Aluminized PPE and face shields mandatory near melting/casting bays.
- Casting Safety (MEPL/MMPL): Where casting are received or processed, ensure guarding and safe operating procedures
- Dust & Silicosis Prevention: RCS controls (engineering ventilation, enclosures) in the sand plant, core shop and fettling bays.
- Machine Guarding: 100% guarding compliance on lathes, CNC/VMC machines, grinders, presses and conveyors across all three units (ISO 12100 principles).
- Industrial Hygiene: Periodic monitoring of noise (furnace hum, shakeout, grinding), heat stress and illumination; Hearing Conservation and Respiratory Protection programs; Health Surveillance (audiometry, lung function, exposure to silica/noise/fumes).
- Material Handling: Safety protocols for EOT cranes, forklifts and die-handling equipment; tested and colour-coded lifting tackle; rigging/slinging training for heavy castings, forgings and dies.
D. Sustainability, GreenCo & Export-Readiness
- Customer & Social Compliance Audits: Prepare and maintain readiness for customer EHS/social-compliance audits (automotive customer EHS annexures) given exports to Italy, UK, Germany, USA and Mexico.
- Resource Efficiency Tracking: Track specific energy consumption (induction melting, compressed air, machining), specific water consumption, and waste-to-landfill diversion for use in both ISO 14001 and customer scorecards.
- CII-GreenCo (or Equivalent) Rating — Year-1 Target: Lead the Group's gap assessment, questionnaire preparation,
evidence collection and assessment visit within Year 1. Sequence certification starting with the most audit-ready unit (to be confirmed with Unit Heads — likely MVFPL or MEPL based on documentation maturity), with gap assessments for the other two units run in parallel so all three entities are rating-eligible by year-end.
- Reporting: Present GreenCo readiness status monthly alongside the ISO 14001/45001 dashboard, since much of the evidence (energy, waste, water data) overlaps.
E. Risk Assessment & Process Safety
- HIRA: For new projects, recent patterns/dies, and changes to machining or forging-fed lines.
- JSA: Standardised for high-risk tasks — furnace lining repair, crucible/ladle replacement, sand-silo cleaning (confined space), die changes, CNC tool changes.
- Management of Change (MOC): Review new chemicals (core binders, paints, coolants, die-release agents) for compatibility and safety before procurement.
- LOTO: Enforced for maintenance on mixers, conveyors, cranes, presses and CNC machines.
F. Training & Awareness
- Foundry/die-casting induction ("Heat, Dust, Noise, Molten Metal") for all new workers, apprentices and contractors at MVFPL.
- Machine-shop (rotating equipment, coolant handling, chip hazards) for MMPL and MEPL.
- Contractor safety management for high-risk activities
- Pictorial, language-agnostic toolbox talks suited to a diverse shop-floor workforce.
G. Incident Management & Emergency Response
- Mock drills: molten-metal spillage/explosion, die-casting hydraulic failure, fire in chemical/resin/LPG storage, gas leakage.
- Maintain a shared Occupational Health Centre (OHC) resourced for burn management and crush injuries, servicing all three co-located units.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (Why-Why / Fishbone) for crane failures, metal splashes, press/die incidents, grinding injuries and forklift collisions — logged separately by legal entity for statutory reporting, and consolidated for trend analysis.
