Job Summary:
The Sr. Alternatives Fund Accountant will be responsible for the accurate and timely accounting and reporting for a portfolio of alternative investment funds, including hedge funds, private equity funds, and/or real estate funds. This role requires a strong understanding of complex financial instruments, fund structures, and generally accepted accounting principles.
Job Responsibilities:
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, statements of operations, and statements of cash flows.
Perform daily cash reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies.
Calculate and reconcile net asset value (NAV) for assigned funds, ensuring accuracy and adherence to fund governing documents.
Process and review various fund transactions, including capital calls, distributions, subscriptions, redemptions, and transfers.
Monitor and manage investor capital activity, including allocations and maintaining investor capital statements.
Assist with the preparation and review of financial audit work papers and interact with external auditors.
Ensure compliance with fund offering documents, partnership agreements, and regulatory requirements.
Research and resolve complex accounting issues and discrepancies.
Participate in the onboarding of new funds and client relationships.
Collaborate with internal teams, including client service, operations, and compliance.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Job Qualifications:**
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
4+ years of experience in fund accounting, specifically with alternative investments (hedge funds, private equity, real estate).
Robust understanding of GAAP and IFRS principles.
CPA designation or progress towards CPA preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential, with experience in VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and advanced formulas.
Experience with fund accounting software (e.g., Geneva, Advent Geneva, Investran) is highly preferred.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial information clearly.
