SAP Data Migration Functional Consultant – Production Planning / Quality Management (PP/QM)

The SAP Data Migration Functional Consultant – Production Planning / Quality Management (PP/QM) is responsible for the end-to-end functional ownership of assigned SAP data migration objects supporting manufacturing, production planning, and quality management processes within a large global SAP S/4HANA transformation program.

The consultant serves as the primary liaison between PP/QM Business Process Teams, Business Data Owners, Data Construction SMEs, cross-functional value streams, and Data Migration Developers to ensure business requirements are translated into accurate migration designs, Functional Design Specifications (FDS), Field Mapping Documents (FMD), data cleansing strategies, relevancy rules, validation procedures, and successful production deployments.

The consultant is responsible for legacy data assessment and profiling, data relevancy analysis, data mapping, business data construction, migration testing, data validation, and cutover support for PP/QM data.

The exact migration object scope will be based on the SAP S/4HANA solution design and approved project migration inventory.

Key Responsibilities

1. Legacy Data Assessment and Profiling

- Perform detailed profiling of legacy manufacturing and quality data to understand source structures, relationships, volumes, completeness, usage patterns, and data quality.
- Analyze data volumes by plant, material, BOM usage, routing/task list type, production version, inspection type, and other relevant organizational and functional dimensions.
- Assess complex relationships among Material, BOM, Routing/Recipe, Production Version, Work Center, MIC, Inspection Plan, and related objects.
- Identify duplicate, incomplete, inconsistent, obsolete, and invalid data.
- Assess data quality and estimate the business effort required for cleansing and remediation.
- Prepare profiling reports and communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to Data Migration and PP/QM leadership.

2. Data Relevancy Analysis

- Collaborate with PP/QM Functional Teams, Business Data Owners, and cross-functional value streams to define migration relevancy rules.
- Establish criteria for identifying Active versus Inactive manufacturing and quality master data.
- Develop relevancy rules based on criteria such as active materials, plants, production activity, valid BOMs and routings, production versions, inspection requirements, open transactions, and future manufacturing requirements.




- Account for object dependencies when defining relevancy; for example, relevant Production Versions may require corresponding Material, BOM, and Routing/Recipe data to be in scope.
- Produce relevancy reports identifying records proposed for migration and exclusion.
- Review relevancy results with Business Data Owners and obtain alignment on migration scope.
- Maintain and refine relevancy rules throughout mock conversion cycles.

3. Data Mapping and Functional Design

- Conduct Data Mapping Workshops with PP/QM Functional Teams, Business SMEs, and other stakeholders.
- Analyze legacy source structures and SAP S/4HANA target requirements.
- Develop and maintain Data Migration Functional Design Specifications (FDS).
- Develop and maintain Field Mapping Documents (FMD) defining:
- Source-to-target mappings
- Transformation rules
- Defaulting and derivation logic
- Value conversions
- XREF requirements
- Data cleansing requirements
- Data validation rules
- Document object dependencies and migration sequencing requirements.
- Maintain FDS and FMD documentation throughout design, development, testing, mock conversions, and production migration.

4. Business Data Construction and Enablement

- Identify and support Business Data Construction SMEs for assigned PP/QM migration objects.
- Onboard and train business users on:
- Data construction
- Data cleansing
- XREF file preparation
- Data relevancy validation
- Pre-load validation
- Post-load validation and reconciliation
- Assist Business SMEs with constructing or enriching data that cannot be directly derived from legacy systems.
- Support development and validation of XREF data.
- Review constructed data for completeness, consistency, referential integrity, and migration readiness.

5. Migration Build Support

- Work closely with SAP BODS or Syniti Data Migration Developers during design and build.
- Explain functional requirements documented in the FDS and FMD.
- Clarify mapping rules, transformations, derivations, XREF logic, relevancy rules, and object dependencies.
- Review ETL implementation to ensure alignment with approved functional specifications.
- Assist developers in resolving functional questions and migration errors.
- Participate in design reviews, ETL walkthroughs, and migration readiness reviews.

6. Testing and Data Validation

- Develop Functional Unit Test scenarios and expected results.
- Perform Functional Unit Testing for assigned PP/QM migration objects.
- Validate complex relationships across dependent manufacturing and quality objects.
- Work with developers to troubleshoot ETL errors, transformation defects, SAP load errors, and reconciliation differences.
- Assist Business SMEs with:
- Pre-load validation
- Mock conversion validation
- Post-load validation
- Legacy-to-SAP reconciliation
- Determine whether identified defects require changes to source data, constructed data, XREFs, FDS/FMD requirements, or ETL logic.
- Support defect logging, retesting, resolution, and closure.




- Coordinate business review and approval of post-load reconciliation results.

7. Cross-Functional Data Migration Coordination

- Coordinate closely with Material Master teams because PP/QM objects frequently depend on material and plant-level master data.
- Coordinate with STP on supplier quality, procurement, and Quality Info Record dependencies.
- Coordinate with EAM/PM where Task Lists, BOMs, Work Centers, PRTs, or other master data are shared across manufacturing and maintenance processes.
- Coordinate with Warehouse Management and Inventory teams on production supply and inventory dependencies.
- Coordinate with Finance and Product Costing teams where manufacturing master data affects costing and valuation.
- Identify migration sequencing dependencies and communicate them to Data Migration leadership.

8. Cutover and Hypercare Support

- Support mock conversions, dress rehearsals, and production migration events.
- Participate in migration cutover planning and readiness reviews.
- Ensure dependent objects are sequenced appropriately during migration execution.
- Validate that construction, XREF, relevancy, ETL, and validation activities are complete before production migration.
- Coordinate business validation and reconciliation during production cutover.
- Track migration-related issues through resolution during cutover and Hypercare.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of hands-on SAP Data Migration Functional Consultant experience supporting Production Planning (PP) and/or Quality Management (QM) data migration.
- 10+ years of SAP consulting experience supporting large global SAP ERP implementations or SAP S/4HANA transformation programs.
- Strong functional understanding of SAP PP and/or QM processes and associated master and transactional data.
- Strong understanding of dependencies among Material, BOM, Routing/Recipe, Production Version, Work Center, MIC, Inspection Plan, and related manufacturing and quality objects.
- Demonstrated experience performing legacy data profiling, data quality assessment, and data cleansing analysis.
- Experience defining data relevancy rules and migration scope.
- Experience conducting Data Mapping Workshops and preparing FDS and FMD deliverables.
- Experience supporting business data construction, XREF development, and pre-load/post-load validation.
- Experience working with SAP BODS, Syniti, SAP Migration Cockpit, or comparable enterprise migration solutions.
- Experience supporting multiple mock conversion cycles and production cutovers.
- Robust analytical, communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- SAP S/4HANA Production Planning and/or Quality Management implementation experience.
- Experience migrating BOMs, Routings, Master Recipes, Production Versions, Work Centers, Production Supply Areas, Control Cycles, MICs, Inspection Plans, and Quality Info Records.
- Experience with discrete manufacturing and/or process manufacturing environments.
- Experience with global SAP programs involving multiple manufacturing plants and legacy ERP systems.
- Experience working with globally distributed onshore/offshore teams.
- Familiarity with SAP Activate and Agile delivery methodologies.
