Job Summary The BESS O&M; Lead will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, reliability, and performance optimization of Battery Energy Storage Systems integrated with Utility Scale Solar and Wind Power Plants. The role will focus on managing EMS (Energy Management System), BMS (Battery Management System), PCS (Power Conversion System), SCADA, Grid Compliance, and Renewable Energy Integration to ensure maximum energy availability, Asset & Grid availability, and asset performance.

Key Responsibilities

BESS Operations & Renewable Integration

- Lead day-to-day operation and maintenance of Utility Scale Battery Energy Storage Systems.
- Ensure seamless integration between Solar PV, Wind Turbines, Grid Infrastructure, and BESS.
- Optimize battery charging and discharging schedules based on renewable generation profiles.
- Monitor plant performance and maximize BESS equipment utilization.
- RCA, PM coordination with OEM. Breakdown restoration, implement, preventive action from RCA
- Ensure plant availability and reliability targets as per KPI.

Energy Management System (EMS)

- Manage and optimize EMS operation for Solar-Wind-BESS hybrid projects.
- Monitor real-time power flow between Solar Plant, Wind Plant, BESS, and Grid.
- Develop charging/discharging strategies based on weather forecasts and generation patterns.
- Analyze EMS alarms, communication failures, and dispatch deviations.
- Support grid scheduling and compliance requirements.
- Monitor energy dispatch, ancillary services, and load management functions.
- Coordinate EMS upgrades, modifications, and testing activities.

Battery Management System (BMS)

- Monitor battery performance parameters:
- State of Charge (SOC)
- State of Health (SOH)
- Cell Voltage
- Cell Temperature
- Capacity Utilization
- Degradation Trends
- Identify and resolve battery imbalance issues.
- Conduct battery fault analysis and root cause investigations.
- Monitor thermal management and cooling systems.
- Coordinate battery replacement and warranty management with OEMs.
- Ensure compliance with battery operating limits and safety protocols.

Power Conversion System (PCS)

- Operate and maintain PCS, Bidirectional Inverters, and Power Electronics Systems.
- Monitor conversion efficiency and energy throughput.
- Troubleshoot PCS faults, inverter trips, and communication failures.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Manage firmware updates and OEM recommendations.




- Ensure synchronization with grid and renewable generation systems.

Solar & Wind Plant Coordination

- Coordinate with Solar PV and Wind O&M; teams for optimal BESS utilization.
- Support renewable energy forecasting and scheduling activities.
- Analyze PV generation profiles and Wind Generation patterns for battery dispatch optimization.
- Ensure smooth operation of hybrid renewable projects.
- Participate in renewable asset performance improvement initiatives.
- Support Grid Compliance and SLDC requirements.

SCADA & Remote Monitoring

- Monitor SCADA systems for BESS, Solar, and Wind assets.
- Ensure healthy communication among:
- EMS
- BMS
- PCS
- PPC
- RTU
- SCADA
- Wind Turbine Controllers
- Solar Plant Controllers
- Analyze alarms and event logs.
- Coordinate troubleshooting with OEMs and Automation Teams.
- Maintain remote monitoring systems and dashboards.

Grid Compliance & Electrical Systems

- Ensure compliance with Grid Code and Utility Requirements.
- Monitor voltage regulation and frequency control functions.
- Support reactive power management and minimize auxiliary power.
- Manage electrical systems including:
- Transformers
- Switchgear
- Protection Relays
- HT/LT Panels
- Transmission Interface Equipment
- Participate in outage planning and restoration activities.

Performance Monitoring & Reliability

- Monitor and improve:
- BESS Availability
- Round Trip Efficiency
- Renewable Energy Utilization
- Battery Health Index
- Response Time Performance
- Energy Throughput
- Conduct performance data analysis and reporting.
- Lead root cause analysis for equipment failures.
- Implement reliability-centered maintenance practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Safety & Compliance

- Ensure strict compliance with HSE policies and procedures.
- Manage Battery Fire Suppression Systems.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans.
- Monitor thermal runaway detection systems.
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Promote a solid safety culture across all renewable assets.





Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management

- Lead BESS O&M; engineers and technicians.
- Coordinate with Solar and Wind O&M; teams.
- Manage OEMs, vendors, contractors, and service providers.
- Conduct technical training programs and competency development initiatives.
- Support budget planning and maintenance cost optimization.
- Prepare management reports and presentations.

Experience
- 12-15 Years of experience in Renewable Energy O&M.;
- Minimum 2-3 Years of experience in EMS, BMS
- Minimum 2-5 Years of experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Experience in Utility Scale Solar Power Plants and Wind Farms.
- Experience managing EMS, BMS, PCS, SCADA, and Grid Compliance.
- Exposure to Hybrid Renewable Projects (Solar + Wind + BESS) preferred.
