About skilledintern.com skilledintern.com is an AI-powered career platform helping students prepare for and secure internships and graduate roles across investment banking, asset management, private equity and other highly competitive industries.

We are scaling our core technology platform, which combines opportunity tracking, application management, CV scoring, online assessment preparation, HireVue practice, AI mock interviews and personalised performance analytics.

A major part of our roadmap is a reusable, multi-module assessment engine that allows our non-technical team to create and deploy custom-scored psychometric, cultural, numerical, verbal and skills-based assessments without requiring engineering intervention.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced, highly autonomous Technical Lead or Senior Full-Stack Engineer to take ownership of our technology architecture and lead our existing team of three developers.

You will inherit a rapidly evolving platform developed using React, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Docker, n8n and AI-assisted development tools including Codex and Replit.

The platform currently runs within a Docker/VPS environment. You will be responsible for stabilising and strengthening the existing codebase, improving engineering governance and leading its migration towards a secure, scalable AWS Serverless architecture backed by Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.

This is a hands-on leadership position. You will be expected to write and review production code, make architectural decisions, manage delivery and help the team maintain a predictable weekly release cycle.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

- Lead, mentor and coordinate an existing team of three developers
- Translate business requirements into clear technical plans and sprint priorities
- Assign work across multiple interconnected platform modules
- Remove technical blockers and maintain delivery momentum
- Balance rapid development with security, reliability and maintainability
- Communicate progress, risks and technical decisions clearly to the founder

Architecture and Development

- Take ownership of the platform’s front-end, back-end, database and integration architecture
- Develop and review production features using React, Node.js, JavaScript and TypeScript
- Assess the existing codebase and identify technical debt, security risks and scalability constraints
- Define clear technical standards across all platform modules
- Ensure new features are reusable, documented and properly tested
- Build reliable APIs and integrations between the platform’s different services
- Maintain a consistent user experience across desktop and mobile devices

AWS and Database Migration

- Design a secure and cost-effective AWS Serverless architecture
- Develop and execute the migration strategy from the current VPS and Docker environment




- Migrate PostgreSQL workloads to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL
- Implement appropriate AWS services, including Lambda, API Gateway and S3
- Design safe data-migration, validation, backup and rollback procedures
- Minimise downtime and protect data integrity throughout the migration
- Introduce appropriate monitoring, logging, alerting and cost controls

Engineering Governance

- Establish a clear Git branching strategy and pull-request workflow
- Introduce mandatory peer review for production code
- Set appropriate coding, documentation and testing standards
- Improve repository access controls and environment separation
- Establish development, staging and production environments
- Prevent unreviewed or untested changes from reaching production
- Maintain clear ownership of repositories, infrastructure and deployment credentials

DevOps and Release Management

- Build or improve automated CI/CD pipelines
- Maintain Docker-based development and deployment environments where appropriate
- Establish a predictable and safe weekly release schedule
- Introduce automated testing, deployment checks and rollback procedures
- Improve application performance, reliability and observability
- Document deployment, recovery and incident-response processes

Automation and AI-Assisted Development

- Maintain and optimise existing n8n workflows
- Integrate automation workflows reliably with the main platform
- Review and productionise prototypes created using Replit, Codex and similar tools
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery without compromising code quality
- Identify areas where automation can reduce manual operational work
- Ensure AI-generated code is reviewed, tested, secured and maintainable

Essential Requirements

- At least five years of professional full-stack software-development experience
- Previous experience leading or mentoring a small engineering team
- Strong production experience with React and Node.js
- Advanced JavaScript and TypeScript skills
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database design
- Practical experience with Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL
- Strong experience designing and deploying AWS Serverless applications
- Hands-on knowledge of AWS Lambda, API Gateway and S3
- Experience migrating live databases and production applications
- Strong understanding of REST APIs and service integrations
- Experience with Docker and containerised applications
- Experience establishing CI/CD pipelines
- Strong knowledge of Git workflows, branching strategies and pull-request reviews
- Good understanding of application security, authentication, permissions and data protection
- Ability to diagnose unfamiliar systems and take ownership quickly




- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-moving startup environment

Desirable Experience

- Experience with Amazon CloudWatch, IAM, Secrets Manager, CloudFront, Cognito or Route 53
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK or CloudFormation
- Experience building assessment, EdTech, recruitment or learning platforms
- Experience developing configurable scoring engines or content-management systems
- Experience with n8n or similar workflow-automation platforms
- Experience productionising applications created through rapid-prototyping tools
- Familiarity with Codex, Replit, GitHub Copilot, Cursor or similar AI-assisted development tools
- Experience managing infrastructure costs and AWS optimisation
- Previous experience in an early-stage or high-growth technology company

What Success Looks Like Within Your First 14 Days

- Complete an initial review of the architecture, codebase, database, infrastructure and deployment process
- Identify critical security, stability and technical-debt risks
- Establish a structured Git branching and pull-request review process
- Introduce clear ownership and priorities across the three-person development team
- Establish a reliable weekly development and release rhythm
- Document the proposed AWS migration architecture
- Produce a phased migration plan covering costs, risks, testing, data integrity, rollback and expected timelines
- Begin implementing the highest-priority infrastructure and codebase improvements

Within Your First 90 Days

- Strengthen the reliability, security and maintainability of the existing platform
- Implement automated CI/CD and appropriate testing controls
- Establish effective monitoring, logging and alerting
- Complete agreed phases of the AWS Serverless and Aurora PostgreSQL migration
- Improve delivery speed across all product modules
- Reduce dependency on manual deployments and individual developers
- Create a scalable technical foundation for CityInterned.com’s continued growth
