About the Role
We are looking for a Firmware Engineer with hands-on experience in embedded systems, EV charging, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The candidate will be responsible for developing, testing, debugging, and maintaining firmware for embedded controllers, battery systems, EV charging systems, and associated electronic hardware. The ideal candidate should have strong programming and scripting skills, particularly in C/C++ and Python, along with an interest in leveraging Generative AI and automation tools to improve firmware development, testing, diagnostics, and engineering workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, and maintain firmware for EV chargers, BESS, battery management systems (BMS), and embedded controllers.
- Develop firmware using C/C++, microcontrollers, and embedded platforms.
- Write Python scripts for automation, hardware testing, diagnostics, data analysis, log processing, and firmware validation.
- Develop automated test scripts and tools for firmware and embedded hardware.
- Interface firmware with communication protocols such as CAN, CAN-FD, RS485, UART, SPI, I2C, Modbus, and Ethernet.
- Work on communication and control between BMS, PCS, chargers, controllers, meters, and other system components.
- Understand and implement battery-related parameters such as SOC, SOH, voltage, current, temperature, charging/discharging limits, and protection mechanisms.
- Debug firmware and hardware issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, CAN tools, debuggers, and other test equipment.
- Develop diagnostic and fault-handling mechanisms for embedded systems.
- Perform firmware testing, validation, regression testing, and field issue debugging.
- Collaborate with Hardware, BMS, Software, Testing, and Operations teams for product development and troubleshooting.
- Maintain firmware documentation, communication protocol documentation, test procedures, and release notes.
- Support product certification and compliance testing wherever required.
- Develop tools and scripts to reduce repetitive engineering and testing activities.
Generative AI & Automation
- Use Generative AI tools to improve firmware development, code generation, debugging, documentation, test-case generation, and technical analysis.
- Develop AI-assisted workflows for analyzing firmware logs, CAN data, test results, and system faults.
- Use Python, APIs, LLMs, and AI-based development tools to automate engineering workflows.
- Build tools that can automatically identify errors, generate reports, and assist in firmware validation.
- Explore emerging AI tools and techniques to improve embedded software development and testing productivity.
Required Skills Embedded & Firmware
- Strong knowledge of Embedded C/C++.
- Good understanding of microcontrollers and embedded architectures.
- Experience in firmware development, debugging, testing, and deployment.
- Understanding of RTOS concepts is preferred.
- Knowledge of bootloaders, firmware upgrades, OTA updates, watchdogs, interrupts, timers, and memory management.
Scripting & Python
- Strong Python scripting skills.
- Experience developing automation and testing scripts.
- Ability to process and analyze logs, CAN data, test results, and system parameters.
- Experience with Python-based automation and data analysis is preferred.
Communication Protocols Hands-on experience with one or more of:
- CAN / CAN-FD
- RS485
- Modbus RTU/TCP
- UART
- SPI
- I2C
- Ethernet / TCP-IP
EV & BESS
- Hands-on experience in EV charging, BESS, BMS, PCS, or battery systems is required.
- Understanding of lithium-ion / LFP battery systems.
- Knowledge of BMS communication and battery protection systems.
- Understanding of charging/discharging cycles and battery operating parameters.
- Familiarity with EV charging standards and protocols such as OCPP is an advantage.
- Experience with power electronics or energy management systems is an added advantage. 2
Generative AI
- Practical experience using Generative AI tools for software/firmware development.
- Understanding of LLMs, prompt engineering, AI-assisted coding, or AI-based automation.
- Ability to identify opportunities where AI can improve engineering productivity.
Education
- B.Tech / B.E. / M.Tech in Electronics & Communication, Electrical, Instrumentation, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
Preferred Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in embedded firmware development.
- Experience working on EV Chargers, BESS, BMS, PCS, battery packs, or power electronics products.
- Experience working with hardware during firmware development and troubleshooting.
- Experience in automated testing and Python-based engineering tools.
- Exposure to product development from prototype to production.
