A School Librarian is responsible for managing the school library, supporting students and teachers with learning resources, and promoting reading habits. They play a key role in developing students’ research skills and ensuring access to educational materials in both physical and digital formats.
Key Responsibilities
Organize, manage, and maintain library books, digital resources, and educational materials
Assist students and teachers in locating books and research information
Issue and receive books (library circulation management)
Maintain proper cataloging and classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal System)
Encourage students to develop reading habits through library activities and programs
Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum-based learning
Conduct library orientation sessions for students
Maintain discipline and a quiet study workplace in the library
Keep records of issued books, overdue materials, and inventory
Recommend and procure recent books and learning resources
Support digital learning by guiding students in using e-books and online resources
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Library Science / Information Science or relevant field
Diploma or certification in Library Science (preferred for schools)
Basic knowledge of computers and library management software
