Job Purpose
To define, architect, and lead the development of next-generation software platforms for flexible endoscopy systems, including video processors, camera systems, imaging applications, connectivity solutions, AI-enabled workflows, and embedded software frameworks. The role is responsible for establishing scalable, secure, high-performance, and regulatory-compliant software architectures that support current and future endoscopy products while ensuring superior clinical visualization, interoperability, reliability, and maintainability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Software Architecture & Platform Strategy
- Define and own the overall software architecture for endoscopy imaging platforms.
- Establish scalable software frameworks supporting multiple product families and future technology roadmaps.
- Design modular and reusable software architectures that reduce development effort and improve maintainability.
- Define system partitioning across embedded processors, FPGA platforms, operating systems, middleware, and application layers.
- Develop software platform strategies supporting HD, Full HD, 4K, and future imaging technologies.
- Drive architectural decisions balancing performance, scalability, cybersecurity, safety, and regulatory requirements.
2. Endoscopy Imaging & Video Platform Architecture
- Architect real-time video acquisition, processing, recording, streaming, and display systems.
- Define software frameworks for image enhancement and clinical visualization technologies.
- Collaborate with imaging scientists and algorithm teams for integration of:
- Noise Reduction
- White Balance
- Color Enhancement
- Energetic Contrast Optimization
- Digital Zoom
- Image Stabilization
- Image Sharpening
- AI-Assisted Visualization
• Define low-latency video processing pipelines for clinical applications.
- Support integration of future AI and computer vision technologies into endoscopy platforms.
3. Embedded & System Software Architecture
- Architect software solutions for Linux-based and RTOS-based embedded platforms.
- Define software interfaces for:
- CMOS Image Sensors
- FPGA Platforms
- Video Processors
- Light Source Systems
- Camera Control Units
- Storage Devices
- User Interface Systems
• Establish hardware abstraction layers (HAL), middleware frameworks, and application software structures.
- Define system startup, diagnostics, health monitoring, and fault management architectures.
- Drive software optimization for performance, memory utilization, and reliability.
4. Connectivity, Interoperability & Digital Platforms
- Architect secure communication frameworks for connected endoscopy systems.
- Define integration strategies for:
- USB 3.0
- Ethernet
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth
- TCP/IP
- Cloud Platforms
• Support interoperability with hospital information systems and digital healthcare ecosystems.
- Establish frameworks for remote diagnostics, software updates, and serviceability.
- Define cybersecurity architectures aligned with medical device security requirements.
5. AI, Computer Vision & Advanced Visualization
- Define architecture for AI-assisted endoscopy applications.
- Support integration of:
- Lesion Detection
- Polyp Detection
- Tissue Classification
- Computer Vision Algorithms
- Clinical Decision Support Systems
• Collaborate with AI and data science teams to deploy machine learning models in real-time clinical environments.
- Establish software frameworks for future intelligent endoscopy solutions.
6. Software Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure software architecture compliance with:
- IEC 62304
- IEC 60601-1
- IEC 60601-1-2
- ISO 13485
- ISO 14971
- FDA Design Controls
- EU MDR
- Medical Device Cybersecurity Guidelines
• Participate in risk analysis, hazard assessments, and software safety classifications.
- Define software lifecycle processes, traceability frameworks, and quality metrics.
- Support regulatory submissions, audits, and technical documentation activities.
7. Technical Leadership & Engineering Governance
- Lead architecture reviews and technical decision-making across software teams.
- Establish coding standards, software development methodologies, and design best practices.
- Mentor software architects, technical leads, and development teams.
- Review software requirements, architecture documents, design specifications, and implementation plans.
- Drive adoption of modern software engineering practices including DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and model-based development.
- Support technology evaluation and strategic product planning initiatives.
8. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with hardware, FPGA, optics, mechanical, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, and clinical teams.
- Participate in product definition, system engineering, and technology roadmap planning.
- Support supplier evaluation and third-party software integration activities.
- Contribute to innovation programs, intellectual property generation, and strategic partnerships.
Qualifications and Experience
- B.E. / B.Tech in Computer Science, Electronics, Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
- M.E. / M.Tech / MS preferred.
- 12–18+ years of experience in software development and architecture for embedded systems, imaging platforms, medical devices, or complex real-time systems.
- Minimum 5+ years in software architecture or technical leadership roles.
- Experience in endoscopy, medical imaging, surgical visualization, robotics, diagnostic imaging, or healthcare technology preferred.
- Proven experience architecting large-scale software platforms from concept to commercialization.
Skills and Competencies
- Expert-level proficiency in C++, C, Python, and object-oriented software architecture.
- Strong understanding of Linux-based embedded systems and RTOS platforms.
- Expertise in software design patterns, middleware frameworks, and distributed systems architecture.
- Experience with OpenCV, GStreamer, FFmpeg, OpenGL, Qt, and multimedia frameworks.
- Strong understanding of image acquisition, video processing, and real-time streaming technologies.
- Experience with FPGA-software integration and hardware-software co-design.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for connected medical devices.
- Familiarity with cloud architectures and digital health ecosystems.
- Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and software quality assurance practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and mentoring skills.
