Role Purpose The Ambulance Paramedic is responsible for providing safe, timely and appropriate pre-hospital patient care during ambulance transportation, supporting patient stabilization, maintaining emergency medical equipment, and ensuring a smooth handover at the receiving hospital.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Assessment & Pre-Hospital Care
- Assess the patient's condition upon boarding the ambulance.
- Monitor vital signs such as BP, pulse, SpO₂, respiratory rate and temperature as required.
- Identify changes in the patient's condition during transportation.
- Provide appropriate first aid and emergency care within the scope of training and authorization.
- Assist in patient stabilization during transportation.
2. Emergency Response
- Respond promptly to emergency ambulance calls.
- Provide appropriate pre-hospital emergency support during trauma, medical emergencies and other critical situations.
- Assist with CPR/BLS and other emergency interventions as trained and authorized.
- Coordinate with the receiving hospital where necessary regarding the patient's condition and ETA.
3. Patient Transportation
- Ensure secure positioning and transportation of patients.
- Assist with safe patient lifting, shifting and transfer using stretchers, wheelchairs and other equipment.
- Ensure patient comfort, dignity and safety throughout the journey.
- Maintain continuous observation of patients during transportation.
4. Medical Equipment Management
- Check ambulance medical equipment at the beginning of every shift.
- Ensure oxygen cylinders, emergency kits, monitors, suction units, stretchers and other essential equipment are available and functional.
- Maintain adequate stock of consumables.
- Immediately report damaged, missing or expired equipment/consumables.
5. Patient Handover
- Coordinate with the receiving hospital team during patient arrival.
- Provide a clear and accurate handover of the patient's condition, vital signs, care provided and relevant observations.
- Complete required patient care and trip documentation.
6. Ambulance Readiness & Cleanliness
- Ensure the patient-care area is clean, hygienic and ready for the next assignment.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
- Ensure appropriate disposal of biomedical waste as per applicable procedures.
- Report any issue affecting ambulance readiness immediately to the Fleet Operations Manager.
7. Documentation
- Maintain accurate patient care records and trip documentation.
- Record vital signs and relevant interventions.
- Report incidents, patient deterioration, equipment failures and unusual events immediately.
8. Coordination with Driver
- Coordinate closely with the Ambulance Pilot for safe and timely patient transportation.
- Communicate patient-related requirements to the driver.
- Ensure driving and patient-care activities do not compromise patient safety.
9. Professional Conduct
- Treat patients and attendants with empathy, dignity and respect.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Maintain professional grooming and uniform standards.
- Follow hospital and MoveOn Mobility SOPs.
10. Training & Development
- Attend mandatory BLS/first-aid, emergency response and operational training.
- Participate in mock drills and competency assessments.
- Keep emergency-care knowledge and practical skills up to date.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) The Paramedic's performance may be evaluated based on:
- Patient safety and quality of care
- Response to emergency situations
- Accurate patient assessment and documentation
- Proper patient handover
- Ambulance medical equipment readiness
- Compliance with clinical and operational SOPs
- Ambulance cleanliness and infection-control compliance
- Attendance and punctuality
- Professional behaviour with patients and hospital staff
- Compliance with uniform and grooming standards
- Training and competency performance
- Number of avoidable patient/client complaints
Important Responsibility The Ambulance Paramedic is responsible for ensuring that every patient entrusted to their care receives safe, respectful and appropriate pre-hospital support throughout the ambulance journey and is properly handed over to the receiving hospital. Basic Eligibility
- Qualification: Diploma/B.Sc. in Paramedical/Emergency Medical Services or other relevant qualification as per the role and applicable requirements.
- Experience: Freshers with appropriate training may be considered; relevant ambulance/emergency-care experience preferred.
- Certifications: BLS/CPR certification preferred.
- Physical fitness: Must be physically capable of assisting with patient movement and emergency situations.
