Job Summary We are looking for an experienced Upper Body Design Engineer with expertise in automotive BIW (Body-in-White) upper body systems. The candidate will be responsible for designing and developing components such as roof, side body, pillars, closures interfaces, and upper body structures while ensuring compliance with OEM standards, manufacturability, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop BIW Upper Body components including Roof, A/B/C/D Pillars, Side Body, Roof Rails, and related reinforcements.
- Create and modify 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using CATIA V5/NX.
- Ensure compliance with OEM design standards, crash, durability, safety, and NVH requirements.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and support GD&T; implementation.
- Coordinate with CAE, manufacturing, tooling, and supplier teams throughout product development.
- Participate in design reviews and implement engineering changes.
- Support prototype builds, validation activities, and production launch.
- Prepare engineering documentation, BOMs, and release drawings in PLM systems.
Required Skills
- Strong experience in BIW Upper Body design.
- Proficiency in CATIA V5 (or Siemens NX).
- Good understanding of sheet metal design, joining techniques (spot welding, hemming,
laser welding, adhesives), and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of GD&T;, tolerance analysis, and DFM/DFA.
- Experience with PLM tools such as Teamcenter or ENOVIA.
- Understanding of automotive regulations, crashworthiness, and vehicle packaging.
- Robust problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
- Experience working with global OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers.
- Knowledge of APQP, DFMEA, and engineering change management.
