Automotive Android Audio Framework Engineer

About the Role
We are looking for Automotive Android Audio Framework Engineers to join our Automotive Infotainment engineering team.
The role involves development, customization, integration and debugging of the Android Audio Framework for production automotive infotainment systems. The engineer will work across the Android audio software stack, from Android Framework and Native Audio components through Audio HAL and underlying platform/DSP interfaces.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with AOSP Android Audio Framework, excellent C++ programming and system-level debugging skills, and preferably experience developing audio functionality for Automotive Infotainment / Android Automotive (AAOS) products.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, customize and maintain Android Audio Framework components for Automotive Infotainment systems.
- Work with AOSP source code and implement audio requirements at Framework and Native layers.
- Develop and debug functionality involving:
o AudioManager / AudioService o AudioFlinger o AudioPolicyService / AudioPolicyManager o AudioTrack / AudioRecord o Audio Focus o Audio Routing o Audio Attributes o Audio Devices o Audio HAL
- Analyze and resolve issues across:
Application → Android Audio Framework → Native Audio → Audio HAL → DSP / Audio Hardware
- Implement and debug audio focus, routing, volume, ducking, muting and stream-priority requirements.
- Work with concurrent audio sources such as Media, Navigation, Voice Assistant, Phone/Call and System Sounds.
- Debug audio issues including no-audio, incorrect routing, audio interruptions, audio focus failures, audio dropouts/glitches, latency and volume-related issues.
- Analyze audio behavior during boot, shutdown, suspend/resume and power-state transitions.
- Work closely with Audio HAL, BSP/DSP and hardware teams to identify and resolve cross-layer issues.
- Perform detailed root-cause analysis using logs, traces and source-code analysis.
- Participate in design discussions, code reviews, integration and defect resolution.
- Develop and execute unit/integration tests for Audio Framework functionality.
- Support system integration, validation and production releases.
- Own issues from problem reproduction → root-cause analysis → implementation → validation → closure.

Must Have
Android Audio Framework
Solid hands-on experience with Android Audio Framework / AOSP Audio, including:
- AudioFlinger
- AudioPolicy / AudioPolicyManager
- AudioService
- AudioManager
- AudioFocus
- Audio Routing
- AudioTrack / AudioRecord
- Audio Devices / Audio Attributes
- Audio HAL
Ability to understand and debug the interaction between Java Framework, Native Audio Framework and HAL.
Programming
- Strong C++ programming skills.
- Good working knowledge of Java.
- Strong understanding of:
o Object-oriented programming o Multithreading o Synchronization o IPC / Binder o Memory management
- Good Linux programming and command-line skills.
AOSP / Android Platform
- Hands-on experience working with AOSP source code.
- Experience modifying or extending Android Framework / Native components.
- Good understanding of Android system architecture.
- Working knowledge of Binder / IPC and AIDL.
- Understanding of Android build and integration mechanisms.
Debugging
Strong experience with

- Logcat
- Dumpsys
- Bugreport
- Android traces
- GDB
- Linux debugging tools
- Git / Gerrit
Candidates should be comfortable debugging system-level issues across multiple software layers.
Automotive Infotainment Audio – Preferred
Experience in Automotive Infotainment Audio is strongly preferred.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for engineers who:
- Have strong Android Audio Framework fundamentals and hands-on development experience.
- Can navigate and understand a large AOSP codebase.
- Can trace an issue from Framework → Native → HAL → DSP/Hardware.
- Possess strong analytical and debugging skills.
- Can independently drive complex technical issues to closure.
- Are comfortable collaborating with Framework, HAL, BSP, DSP, Application and Validation teams.
- Have a solid interest in Automotive Infotainment and Android Automotive technologies.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3–9 years of relevant software development experience.
- Hands-on experience in Android Audio Framework / AOSP Audio.
- Automotive Infotainment / AAOS experience is highly desirable.
