Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Power BI Developer with 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data visualization, data modeling, and analytics. The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-level Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in Power BI, DAX, Power Query, SQL, data modeling, Power BI Service, performance optimization, and report deployment. Experience working with large datasets and business stakeholders is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports based on business requirements.
- Gather reporting requirements from business stakeholders and convert them into effective BI solutions.
- Develop optimized data models, relationships, measures, calculated columns, and KPIs.
- Write complex DAX expressions for business calculations, time intelligence, and advanced analytics.
- Perform data extraction, transformation, cleansing, and integration using Power Query.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and other database objects.
- Work with relational databases such as MS SQL Server and other data sources.
- Design efficient Star Schema / dimensional data models for Power BI reporting.
- Implement appropriate relationships, cardinality, filter direction, and data-modeling techniques.
- Optimize Power BI reports, dashboards, queries, DAX measures, and semantic models for better performance.
- Work with Import, DirectQuery, and Composite models based on business and performance requirements.
- Configure and manage Power BI Service, workspaces, datasets/semantic models, reports, dashboards, and apps.
- Configure scheduled refreshes and troubleshoot data-refresh failures.




- Work with On-Premises Data Gateway for connecting Power BI Service with on-premise data sources.
- Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and appropriate access controls.
- Support deployment across Development, UAT, and Production environments.
- Monitor report and dataset performance and resolve production issues.
- Maintain documentation for data models, reports, dashboards, data sources, and business rules.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers, Business Analysts, application teams, and business stakeholders.
- Mentor junior Power BI developers and review their technical deliverables.

Required Technical Skills

Power BI

- Power BI
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Power BI development.
- Strong knowledge of Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
- Experience creating complex dashboards, reports, drill-throughs, tooltips, bookmarks, slicers, and interactive visualizations.
- Experience with workspace management, publishing, sharing, apps, and deployment.

DAX

- Strong hands-on experience with DAX.
- Experience with CALCULATE, FILTER, ALL, ALLEXCEPT, SUMX, AVERAGEX, DISTINCTCOUNT, RELATED, RELATEDTABLE, Variables, Time-intelligence functions, Context transition, Row context and filter context, Ability to create complex business measures and calculations.

Power Query / M

- Strong knowledge of Power Query and M language.
- Data cleansing and transformation.
- Merge and append queries.
- Pivot / unpivot.




- Handling nulls and data-quality issues.
- Query optimization and query folding.

SQL

- Robust SQL skills with MS SQL Server.
- Complex joins, subqueries, CTEs, aggregations, window functions, views, and stored procedures.
- Ability to troubleshoot and optimize SQL queries.

Data Modeling

- Strong understanding of: Star Schema, Fact and Dimension tables, Relationships, Cardinality, Date tables, Slowly changing dimensions, Measures vs. calculated columns, Experience designing scalable semantic/data models.
- Microsoft's current Power BI guidance specifically emphasizes semantic modeling, relationships, star-schema design, DAX, performance optimization, and security.

Power BI Performance Optimization

- Experience identifying and resolving slow-performing reports and dashboards.
- Optimize DAX calculations and data models.
- Reduce unnecessary columns and rows.
- Optimize Power Query transformations.
- Understand Import vs. DirectQuery performance considerations.
- Experience using Performance Analyzer and other Power BI optimization techniques.
- Ability to troubleshoot slow data refresh and report rendering issues.

Power BI Service Security

- Power BI workspace administration and access management.
- Dataset/semantic model management.
- Scheduled refresh configuration.
- Gateway configuration and troubleshooting.
- Row-Level Security (RLS).
- Report and dashboard sharing.
- Deployment pipelines / controlled deployment experience.
- Understanding of Power BI governance and security practices.
