About Us: VAYU EPC is a semiconductor and solar turnkey integration company serving India's fab, R&D; and photovoltaic manufacturing ecosystem. We execute turnkey Gas Distribution System (GDS), Chemical Distribution System (CDS), bulk specialty gas and ultra-high-purity (UHP) utility projects for semiconductor, compound-semiconductor and TOPCon solar cell facilities. Our customer base spans commercial fabs, IITs, IISc, DRDO, ISRO and leading solar manufacturers.

Role Summary:
The Design Manager owns the engineering design deliverables for our gas, chemical and process-piping projects, from concept through issued-for-construction. You will size lines, run the hydraulic and process calculations, select components, and produce complete, construction-ready P&IDs; and design packages, while leading a small team of design and drafting engineers. The role is hands-on: you will do the engineering yourself and set the standard for the team, working closely with the General Manager, project managers, OEM partners and customer fab engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Engineering:
i) Lead the design of gas/chemical/exhaust systems, and process/utility piping (UHP, PCW, exhaust, DI/UPW).
ii) Develop complete Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs;) with correct tag numbering, line lists, valve lists, instrument lists and interlock/safety logic; own P&ID; revisions through HAZOP and customer
review cycles.
iii) Prepare process flow diagrams, design basis documents, equipment datasheets and design calculation reports for each project.
iv) Perform piping and process calculations: line sizing, pressure-drop and pressure-budget analysis (Darcy-Weisbach/compressible flow), velocity checks, purge/vent sizing, relief valve and rupture disc sizing,
vessel and cylinder cabinet flow-limit checks, and thermal expansion/stress screening.
v)

Select and specify components including valves (diaphragm, bellows, ball, regulators, pneumatic actuators), fittings, filters, purifiers, flow controllers, transmitters, gas detection and sensors, with
appropriate material, cleanliness (EP/BA), pressure class and compatibility for the service.
vi) Produce piping layouts, isometrics, support and routing schemes, cleanroom penetration details and weld specifications together with the drafting team.
vii) Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards, including SEMI (S2, S6, F-series), ASME B31.3, ASME BPVC, CGA, NFPA 55/318, IS / SMPV Rules, PESO requirements and ISO 14644 cleanroom
practices.
viii)Review OEM/vendor documentation and integrate purchased equipment (gas, chemical, exhaust systems) into overall system design.

Team Leadership:
i) Manage and mentor a team of 23 Design and Drafting Engineers; plan workload, set drawing standards and templates, and review all outgoing deliverables for accuracy and quality.
ii) Maintain the design document control system: drawing register, revision control, checking and approval workflow.
iii) Build design calculation templates, component libraries and a standard P&ID; legend/symbol set to improve repeatability across projects.

Project & Customer Interface:
i) Support proposals and tenders with concept designs, preliminary P&IDs;, bills of material and engineering effort estimates.
ii) Participate in design reviews, HAZOP/safety reviews and technical clarification meetings with customers, consultants and OEM partners.
iii) Provide engineering support during procurement, installation, testing (leak, purity, pressure) and commissioning; resolve site design queries and issue as-built documentation.
iv) Coordinate with civil, HVAC, electrical and automation disciplines on interfaces such as pipe racks, penetrations, exhaust and control integration.

Candidate Profile:

Education & Experience:
i) Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (Master's is a plus).
ii)

7-10 years of experience in piping and process system design, of which at least 3 years should be in gas/chemical/oil&gas;/semiconductor/solar/pharma/electronics fab utilities, or industrial gas/chemical systems.
iii) Demonstrated track record of independently producing complete P&IDs; and design packages that have been built and commissioned.
iv) Prior experience leading or checking the work of junior engineers/draftsmen.

Technical Skills:
i) Strong fundamentals in fluid mechanics, compressible flow, two-phase and vacuum/exhaust flow, and heat transfer as applied to piping systems.
ii) Practical knowledge of instrumentation and control: pressure/flow/temperature transmitters, MFCs, gas detectors, PLC/SCADA interfaces, interlock philosophy and cause-and-effect matrices.
iii) Working knowledge of material selection for corrosive, toxic, pyrophoric and ultra-high-purity services (SS316L EP/BA, PFA/PVDF/PP, Hastelloy), and of cleanliness and particle/moisture specifications.
iv) Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D) and at least one plant design/3D tool such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, SmartPlant P&ID;/3D, AVEVA E3D or Revit MEP; competence in Excel/MathCAD for engineering calculations; exposure to pipe stress (CAESAR II) or CFD tools is desirable.

Preferred:
i) Experience with Chemical, Projects, Oil & Gas industries.
ii) Exposure to turnkey EPC project execution and working with international OEM partners.
iii) Understanding of engineering calculations.

Competencies:
i) Rigorous and detail-oriented; takes ownership of the correctness and safety of design output.
ii) Explicit technical communicator, able to present and defend design decisions to customers and reviewers.
iii) Structured project thinker who can plan deliverables, manage revisions and hold schedules.
