Summary

Bawa Polymers is seeking an experienced and technically strong Head of R&D; – Resin Synthesis to lead the research, development, and scale-up of resin formulations (e.g., alkyd, polyester, epoxy, acrylic, amino, or specialty resins, depending on the company's product range). The role holder will drive innovation in resin chemistry, lead a team of scientists and technologists, and ensure new product development aligns with market needs, cost targets, and regulatory/quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Product Development

· Lead synthesis, formulation, and development of new resins (alkyd/polyester/epoxy/acrylic/amino/PU, etc.) for coatings, adhesives, inks, or industrial applications

· Design and execute lab-scale trials; optimize reaction parameters (temperature, catalysts, reaction time, stoichiometry) for consistent quality and yield

· Drive innovation for low-VOC, waterborne, bio-based, or high-performance resin alternatives in line with industry trends

Scale-Up & Process Development

· Translate lab formulations into pilot and plant-scale production processes

· Work closely with production and process engineering teams to troubleshoot scale-up issues and ensure smooth technology transfer

· Optimize processes for cost efficiency, safety, and consistent quality

Team Leadership

· Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing R&D; team of chemists and lab technicians

· Set R&D; goals, project timelines, and monitor progress against KPIs

· Foster a culture of innovation, documentation, and continuous improvement

Quality, Compliance & Testing

· Ensure resin products meet internal quality standards and relevant industry/regulatory norms (ISO, REACH, RoHS, etc. as applicable)

· Oversee analytical testing (viscosity, acid value, hydroxyl value, molecular weight, GPC, FTIR, DSC, etc.) to validate product performance





· Maintain proper documentation: formulation records, SOPs, technical data sheets (TDS), and MSDS

Customer & Market Support

· Collaborate with sales/marketing teams to develop customized resin solutions for key customers

· Provide technical support for customer trials, complaints, and product troubleshooting

· Track competitor products and emerging technologies to guide the R&D; roadmap

Cost & Project Management

· Manage R&D; budgets, raw material evaluation, and cost-optimization initiatives

· Evaluate alternate/cheaper raw materials without compromising product performance

· Prepare technical reports and presentations for management review

Required Qualifications

· Education: M.Sc./Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or B.Tech/M.Tech in Polymer/Chemical Engineering

· Experience: 10–15+ years in resin synthesis/formulation, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role within paints, coatings, adhesives, or specialty chemicals industry

· Strong hands-on expertise in resin chemistry (alkyd, polyester, epoxy, amino, acrylic, or PU resins)

· Proven track record of successful product development and scale-up from lab to commercial production

· Familiarity with analytical/testing instruments and techniques relevant to resin characterization

Preferred Skills

· Strong understanding of raw materials, reaction mechanisms, and formulation chemistry

· Experience with regulatory compliance (REACH, RoHS, VOC norms)

· Project management and cross-functional collaboration skills

· Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities

· Knowledge of emerging trends: waterborne systems, bio-based resins, low-VOC technologies

Pay: ₹412,836.33 - ₹1,690,401.16 per year
