Team Lead – Counselling & Business Growth

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Study Abroad professional with strong counselling knowledge, commercial thinking and leadership potential to join us as Team Lead – Counselling & Business Growth.

This is not a conventional Study Abroad Counsellor position.

The role is for someone who understands student counselling well, but can also look beyond individual counselling and focus on team performance, lead management, conversions and business growth.

You will work closely with the Head o Counselling and our leadership teams to improve the effectiveness of student counselling, strengthen follow-up, identify missed opportunities and drive better conversion across the team.

We already have experienced counsellors with strong destination and counselling knowledge. We are looking for someone who can help ensure that this knowledge and experience translate into consistent business results through systematic follow-up, effective counselling and greater accountability.

Key Responsibilities

- Drive the performance of counsellors and student recruitment teams.
- Improve enquiry-to-registration and registration-to-enrolment conversions.
- Regularly review leads, follow-ups, pipelines and individual conversion performance.
- Identify potential students who are not progressing and ensure appropriate follow-up.
- Identify where genuine opportunities are being lost and take corrective action.
- Coach counsellors on effective counselling, objection handling, follow-up and closing.
- Help counsellors convert good student interactions into successful registrations and enrolments.
- Work with existing team leaders to improve individual and team performance.
- Introduce greater structure, consistency and accountability into lead management.
- Identify performance and training gaps within the counselling team.
- Guide, mentor and motivate counsellors towards achieving their targets.




- Participate in important or difficult student conversations when intervention can improve the chances of conversion.

- Has a strong understanding of the Study Abroad / Overseas Education counselling process.
- Is comfortable working towards measurable targets.
- Understands the importance of conversion in addition to providing positive student advice.
- Is systematic and persistent with lead follow-up.
- Can identify why a student is hesitating and guide counsellors on how to move the conversation forward.
- Can motivate people and hold team members accountable for performance.
- Is comfortable reviewing lead pipelines, reports and conversion numbers.
- Can identify weaknesses in a counselling conversation and provide practical guidance for improvement.
- Has the confidence to work with experienced counsellors and influence their performance.
- Takes ownership of results rather than waiting for instructions.
- Is proactive in identifying problems and finding solutions.
- Can balance student interests with the commercial objectives of the organisation.
- Has the potential and ambition to take on greater leadership responsibility based on performance.

Experience Requirements

- Minimum 2 years of work experience in the Study Abroad / Overseas Education industry is mandatory.
- Around 5 years of total professional experience is preferred.
- Experience in student counselling, student recruitment, admissions, business development or a related customer-facing role within the overseas education industry is preferred.
- Experience working with student recruitment, enrolment, sales or conversion targets will be a strong advantage.
- Previous Team Lead or Manager designation is not mandatory.

Compensation

Compensation within the range will depend on relevant experience, current responsibilities and demonstrated capability.
