Job Description – Head – Pre-Primary

Organization: Pote Group of Education
Department: Academic / Pre-Primary
Designation: Head – Pre-Primary
Reporting To: Principal / School Management

Role Purpose

The Head – Pre-Primary will be responsible for the overall academic, operational and developmental functioning of the Pre-Primary section, ensuring a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment for young learners.

The role will focus on maintaining academic standards, guiding and developing teachers, ensuring effective curriculum implementation, monitoring children's learning and development, strengthening parent engagement and ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning of the Pre-Primary section.

Key Responsibilities

1. Academic Leadership

- Plan, implement and monitor the Pre-Primary academic programme in alignment with the school's curriculum and academic philosophy.
- Ensure effective implementation of lesson plans, activities, worksheets, assessments and age-appropriate learning experiences.
- Monitor classroom teaching through regular observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.
- Ensure that teaching-learning practices are child-centric, activity-based, experiential and age-appropriate.
- Review academic planning and ensure timely completion of the planned curriculum.
- Identify gaps in learning and work with teachers to address them.
- Ensure consistency in academic practices across all Pre-Primary sections.

2. Teacher Management & Development

- Lead, guide and supervise the Pre-Primary teaching team and support staff.
- Allocate classes, responsibilities and academic duties appropriately.
- Conduct regular team meetings to discuss academic progress, classroom concerns and upcoming activities.
- Mentor teachers on classroom management, teaching methodology and child engagement.
- Identify training and development needs of teachers and coordinate with the relevant teams.
- Monitor teacher performance and provide regular feedback.
- Ensure teachers follow school policies, academic processes and professional standards.
- Support the Principal/Management in performance evaluation of Pre-Primary staff.

3. Curriculum & Activity Planning

- Coordinate the planning of theme-based, experiential and activity-oriented learning.
- Ensure appropriate integration of art, music, storytelling, movement, play and other developmental activities.
- Plan and monitor celebrations, events, field activities and special days related to the Pre-Primary section.
- Ensure activities are age-appropriate, purposeful and aligned with learning objectives.
- Review teaching resources and recommend requirements wherever necessary.

4. Child Development & Well-being

- Monitor the overall academic, behavioural, social and emotional development of children.
- Ensure individual learning needs and developmental concerns are identified and appropriately addressed.
- Coordinate with teachers and parents regarding children's progress and concerns.
- Ensure appropriate support and intervention for children requiring additional attention.
- Maintain a child-friendly, inclusive and positive classroom environment.
- Ensure that children's dignity, safety and well-being remain a priority at all times.

5. Parent Engagement

- Act as a key point of contact for parents regarding Pre-Primary academic and developmental matters.
- Conduct and coordinate parent interactions, meetings and orientation programmes.




- Address parent concerns professionally and ensure timely resolution or escalation.
- Guide teachers in effective parent communication.
- Ensure parents receive appropriate and timely information regarding children's progress, activities and school requirements.
- Build a positive relationship between the school, teachers and parents.

6. Classroom & Operational Monitoring

- Monitor the day-to-day functioning of the Pre-Primary section.
- Ensure classrooms are properly organized, safe, hygienic and conducive to learning.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality and discipline of teachers and support staff.
- Ensure teaching materials, classroom resources and activity requirements are available on time.
- Coordinate with Administration and support departments for maintenance, housekeeping, transport, security and other operational requirements.
- Identify operational issues and ensure timely resolution.

7. Safety, Child Protection & Compliance

- Ensure strict adherence to the school's child-safety and protection policies.
- Ensure teachers and support staff follow prescribed safety protocols.
- Monitor children's movement, arrival, dispersal and supervision arrangements.
- Ensure appropriate procedures are followed during emergencies, activities and school events.
- Ensure compliance with applicable school policies relating to child protection, POSH, POCSO, hygiene and safety.
- Immediately escalate any child-safety concern or incident to the appropriate authority.

8. Assessment & Documentation

- Monitor age-appropriate assessment and observation practices.
- Review children's progress records and developmental observations.
- Ensure teachers maintain accurate academic and child-related documentation.
- Analyse assessment outcomes to identify learning gaps and areas requiring intervention.
- Ensure timely submission of academic reports and other required documentation.
- Maintain records of teacher observations, meetings, parent interactions and academic reviews.

9. School Events & Initiatives

- Plan and coordinate Pre-Primary participation in school events and celebrations.
- Ensure teachers and children are adequately prepared for events and activities.
- Coordinate with other academic and administrative departments for smooth execution.
- Encourage innovative activities that enhance children's learning and school experience.
- Ensure events are well planned, age-appropriate and executed safely.

10. Communication & Coordination

- Coordinate regularly with the Principal and Management regarding the functioning of the Pre-Primary section.
- Work closely with Academic Coordinators, teachers, Administration, HR and other departments.
- Provide regular updates on academic progress, teacher performance, child-related concerns and operational matters.
- Escalate critical issues with appropriate recommendations and possible solutions.
- Ensure effective communication of Management decisions to the Pre-Primary team.

11. Continuous Improvement

- Review existing Pre-Primary processes and identify opportunities for improvement.




- Introduce effective teaching practices and innovative classroom approaches.
- Collect feedback from teachers and parents and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor implementation of corrective actions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the school's Pre-Primary academic and operational standards.

Required Experience

- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in Pre-Primary / Early Years education, including experience in a leadership or coordination role.
- Experience managing and mentoring a team of Pre-Primary teachers.
- Strong exposure to curriculum planning, classroom observation and teacher development.
- Experience in parent engagement and handling child/parent-related concerns.
- Prior experience as a Pre-Primary Coordinator, Academic Coordinator, Pre-Primary Head or equivalent leadership position will be preferred.

Educational Qualification

- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Psychology or a related field.
- B.Ed./ECCEd/NTT/Montessori or relevant early-childhood education qualification will be preferred.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should be an experienced Early Years/Pre-Primary academic leader who can balance academic quality with the emotional, developmental and operational needs of young children.

The person should be capable of leading teachers, monitoring classroom quality, engaging with parents, ensuring child safety, managing day-to-day operations and continuously improving the Pre-Primary learning environment, while working closely with the Principal and School Management.

Pay: From ₹40,000.00 per month
