About the Job
Pragyan Impact Solutions works with governments, nonprofits, communities, and institutions across India to turn ambitious goals into measurable outcomes, through strategic advisory, program design, technology-driven execution, and capacity building in governance and development.
Experience:
8–14 years, including demonstrated ownership of finance strategy (not just finance execution) for at least one growing organization or business unit. Note: Title will be calibrated to experience and demonstrated scope: Head of Finance, AVP/VP – Finance.
Role Description
We're looking for someone to own the financial strategy and capital planning function of the organization, effectively acting as the finance partner to the founder/CEO, across our consulting & research division and our communications division (potentially extending to affiliated entities or sister ventures). You'll sit close to leadership, shape how the business allocates capital, and be the person the founder turns to before a strategic decision rather than after it.
Qualifications
8+ years in progressively senior finance roles, with at least 2-3 years owning financial strategy, forecasting, or capital decisions, not just accounting execution Solid grounding in financial modeling, scenario planning, unit economics, and cash flow forecasting for a project/consulting-revenue business Experience managing statutory compliance, audits, and regulatory relationships (GST, TDS, EPF, ESI, income tax, ROC/company law basics) Working knowledge of contracts, MoUs, and commercial terms, able to review and negotiate, not just file Demonstrated experience building or scaling a finance function: designing the systems, not just running them CA / MBA (Finance) strongly preferred; CFA or equivalent a plus Prior exposure to consulting, government/development-sector, or multi-vertical service businesses is a strong plus Comfortable operating with founder-level ambiguity; priorities will shift,
and you're expected to bring structure to that, not wait for it
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Strategy & Business Partnering Own annual budgeting, financial planning, and multi-year forecasting across divisions (and across entities, if scope extends to sister ventures) Build the financial case for new business lines, tenders, and pricing decisions: model margins on project bids before they're submitted, not after Act as thought partner to the founder/CEO on capital allocation, hiring plans, and investment decisions Own cash flow strategy and working capital management across long-cycle government/institutional payment timelines Prepare board-/founder-level financial narratives, not just numbers, but what they mean and what to do about them 2. Finance & Accounting Oversight Own the finance function end-to-end: AP, AR, general ledger, monthly and annual close, reviewed and signed off by you Own preparation and integrity of financial statements (P&L;, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) and present these to leadership Set and enforce financial controls, approval hierarchies, and delegation of authority across the org Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel; own the audit process end-to-end, not just coordinate it 3. MIS, Reporting & Decision Support Design and own the MIS architecture: what gets tracked, at what frequency, and for whom Deliver monthly and quarterly business reviews with budget-vs-actual analysis, variance drivers,
and recommended actions Build project-level and division-level profitability views (a critical gap in most consulting businesses) so leadership knows which engagements actually make money Build dashboards and reporting systems that scale, not one-off Excel files that break when someone leaves 4. Compliance, Risk & Governance Own statutory compliance strategy across GST, TDS, EPF, ESI, and any entity-level regulatory requirements; team executes, you're accountable Own contract review and risk flagging on client MoUs, vendor agreements, and consortium/JV arrangements (e.g., sub consultancy structures) Build and maintain a compliance calendar and risk register for the organization Represent the organization in front of auditors, regulators, and institutional client finance teams when needed 5. People & Payroll Strategy Own payroll strategy and compensation structuring (not just processing) in coordination with HR/leadership Build and lead the finance team: hire, train, and manage as the function scales 6. Cross-Entity / Multi-Business Financial Oversight (if scope extends beyond one entity) Provide consolidated financial oversight across 2-3 affiliated entities or business lines, with entity-level P&Ls; rolling up to a consolidated view Standardize financial processes and controls across entities so each isn't reinventing its own system Flag and manage inter-entity transactions and shared cost allocation
What Success Looks Like
Leadership makes capital and hiring decisions with real financial data in hand, not gut calls The org knows which projects and divisions are actually profitable Compliance and audits run on a calendar, not on adrenaline Cash flow is forecast, not discovered Finance is treated as a strategic function in the room, not a back-office function reporting out of it The founder can hand you a hard financial problem and walk away, confident it'll be handled
Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹100,000.00 per month
