About the Role Wavetree Networks is looking for an experienced and hands-on Fiber Optic Technician to handle day-to-day optical fiber deployment, splicing, testing, and fault restoration across our Kolkata network. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high network uptime, rapid fault resolution during fiber cuts, and seamless last-mile FTTH customer installations.
Key Responsibilities

- Splicing & Termination: Perform core alignment fusion splicing, ribbon/drop-cable splicing, and mechanical termination inside Joint Closure Boxes (JC Boxes), Fiber Distribution Panels (FDP/ODF), and customer premises (FAT/Rosette boxes).
- Testing & Measurement: Operate testing equipment including OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), Optical Power Meters (OPM), and Visual Fault Locators (VFL) to identify fiber faults, attenuation, macro-bends, and break locations.
- Network Maintenance & Fault Clearance: Diagnose, locate, and restore fiber outages promptly to meet agreed MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) metrics across aerial and underground fiber routes.
- FTTH Deployments & Commissioning: Execute aerial drop cable pulling, tagging, route tracing, and customer-end ONT configuration and signal level verification (ensuring optical power complies within standard dBm thresholds).
- Route Patrolling & Asset Upkeep: Monitor overhead spans and underground routes against external interference,



road construction, utility digging, or tree branch hazards.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain route diagrams, splice charts, loop records, and daily job logs; coordinate closely with the Network Operations Center (NOC) for ticket closure.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

- Education: Higher Secondary (10+2), ITI (Electrician/Electronics/Wireman), or Diploma in Electrical/Electronics/Telecommunications.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of practical field experience in optical fiber splicing, FTTH/GPON architecture, and ISP field operations.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in handling fusion splicing machines (Fujikura, Sumitomo, or similar).
- Hands-on familiarity with OTDR trace reading and fault distance estimation.
- Solid understanding of passive optical networks (splitters, FAT, FTB, patch cords, couplers).
- Field Requirements:
- Must possess a valid two-wheeler driving license and personal two-wheeler for local field transit.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments, on utility poles, and across aerial cable setups.
- Willingness to attend emergency fiber breakdowns on a rotational standby/on-call basis.
