Position-Supply Chain head-BESS

Location- Delhi(Dwarka Sec-21)

Role Purpose

The SCM Head will own strategic sourcing and procurement for the BESS container assembly plant – covering cells, BMS, and the full BOM. The role is responsible for building a resilient, cost-competitive supply base, managing established China-based supplier relationships, and driving a structured indigenization strategy to develop capable Indian suppliers over time.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

- Own end-to-end strategic sourcing and procurement for the BESS Bill of Material parts (BOM) – cells, BMS, electrical, mechanical, and electronic components.
- Float RFQs/RFPs and conduct techno-commercial evaluations of supplier bids before shortlisting and negotiation.
- Build category sourcing strategies (single/dual/multi-source) balancing cost, quality, lead time, and supply risk.
- Lead commercial negotiations, contracting, and long-term supply agreements with key suppliers.

Importing & Supplier Management

- Manage and grow relationships with China-based cell, BMS, and component suppliers, including commercial terms, quality agreements, and delivery performance.
- Navigate import logistics and documentation – International Commercial Terms, LC/TT/CIF/FOB/DDP terms, invoice/packing list/ documentation, customs/duty structures – coordinating with freight forwarders and inspection agencies for China-sourced BOM.
- Monitor supplier risk (geopolitical, regulatory, logistics) and build contingency plans for China-dependent categories.

Supplier Indigenization

- Drive a structured indigenization roadmap to develop capable Indian suppliers for BOM categories currently sourced from China, in line with Make in India.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop domestic suppliers/vendors – technical capability assessment, quality system readiness, and cost competitiveness.




- Work with Design and Quality teams to qualify indigenized components without compromising performance or certification requirements.

BOM & Cross-functional Alignment

- Maintain mandatory, working-level knowledge of BESS/EV BOM – cell, BMS, PCS, and supporting electrical/mechanical components – to source effectively and evaluate alternatives.
- Partner with the Design team on BOM finalization, component specifications, and approved vendor lists.
- Align sourcing plans with production planning/scheduling to ensure material availability without excess inventory.

Logistics & Material Management

- Own end-to-end logistics planning – inbound freight (sea/air), customs clearance, warehousing, and last-mile delivery to the assembly line – for both domestic and China-sourced shipments.
- Own material management – store operations, inventory accuracy, kitting, and line-side material availability – in coordination with Production and Planning.
- Optimize logistics cost and lead time across freight modes and routes, balancing cost against production continuity needs.
- Manage claims related to shipment delays, shortages, and transit damage with logistics partners, insurers, and suppliers.

Cost, Risk & Inventory Management

- Drive cost reduction and total cost of ownership improvement across the supply base through negotiation, indigenization, and process efficiency.
- Own inventory and working capital targets for purchased materials, balancing availability against carrying cost.
- Build supply risk mitigation plans (dual sourcing, buffer stock, alternate logistics routes) for critical/sole-source items.
- Track and report standard procurement KPIs – cost savings,



on-time delivery, vendor diversification, and procurement cycle time – to leadership.

Team & Governance

- Build and lead the procurement/SCM team, setting sourcing standards, approval workflows, and vendor governance processes.
- Ensure procurement practices comply with company policy, statutory requirements, and audit/documentation standards.

Required Qualifications & Experience

- B.Tech in any discipline – mandatory.
- 20+ years of experience in strategic sourcing and procurement, with at least 5 years specifically in BESS or EV-related sourcing.
- Demonstrated experience working with Chinese suppliers/companies – negotiation, quality management, and import logistics.
- Proven track record of indigenizing suppliers/components previously sourced from China or other overseas markets.
- Mandatory knowledge of BESS or EV-related BOM – cells, BMS, PCS, EMS and associated electrical/mechanical components.
- Strong expertise in logistics, SCM, and material management – inbound/outbound logistics, customs, warehousing, and store/inventory operations.
- Solid technical capability to evaluate component specifications, engage in technical discussions with suppliers and the Design team, and assess alternate sourcing/indigenization options.
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills, with experience in long-term supply agreements and contract management.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with Design, Quality, and Production teams on sourcing decisions.

Preferred Attributes

- Experience sourcing for a Greenfield or ramping manufacturing plant.
- Familiarity with Make in India localization requirements for BESS or EV components.
- Involvement in bidding/tendering for BESS solutions (cost estimation, vendor inputs for proposals) is an added advantage.
- Structured, data-driven approach to sourcing decisions with strong reporting discipline to leadership.
