We are seeking an Optical Engineer specializing in Automotive Lighting Simulation using Ansys SPEOS (4+ years) with a keen interest in headlamp, signal lamp, andinterior lighting design, photorealistic rendering simulations in SPEOS. A basicknowledge in Zemax OpticStudio is appreciated. He/She will be responsible for designing and analyzing automotive lighting systems (headlamps, DRLs, taillamps, fog lamps, interior ambient lighting), performing photometric andcolorimetric simulations in SPEOS, ensuring compliance with automotive lighting regulations (ECE, SAE, FMVSS) and creating such regulatory templates is also
preferred, and generating optical/lighting system designs as per client and OEMrequirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, build, validate, and optimize automotive lighting optical systems
(reflectors, lenses, light guides, projector modules) using SPEOS.
• Perform photometric, colorimetric, and illuminance simulations for
headlamps, tail lamps, DRLs, fog lamps, and interior lighting using SPEOS.
• Conduct regulatory compliance simulations and reporting as per ECE, SAE,
FMVSS, and other regional automotive lighting standards and create them
if required.
• Perform stray light, ghost image, glare, scattering, and reflection analysis
for lighting and sensor-integrated optical systems in Speos or else in Zemax
is also appreciated.
• Model and validate LED/light source characteristics, sources libraries, and
source-to-optic coupling in SPEOS.
• Use SPEOS material library and apply appropriate material/coating/surface
finish models (textures, coatings, diffusers, reflective/absorptive surfaces)
to meet styling and performance targets.
• Perform CAD integration and opto-mechanical modeling for lighting
assemblies (SolidWorks/CATIA/NX to SPEOS workflow).
Utilize SPEOS GPU/HPC-based rendering for faster simulation turnaround
and conduct CPU vs. GPU vs HPC trade-off studies.
• Propose design mitigation strategies (baffles, coatings, apertures, surface
treatments) to resolve stray light, hotspot, or glare issues.
• Generate clear technical reports, simulation documentation, and
presentations for internal reviews and OEM/client submissions.
• Stay updated with the latest automotive lighting trends, SPEOS tool
capabilities, and simulation methodologies (adaptive lighting, matrix LED,
pixel lighting, etc.).
• Collaborate with senior optical/lighting engineers, styling, and mechanical
teams to integrate optical performance with design intent and
manufacturability.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's/Master's/Ph.D. degree in Optics, Physics, Mechanical,
Photonics, Automotive Engineering, or related field experience.
• Hands-on experience with automotive lighting design and simulation using
Ansys SPEOS only(requirement).
• Strong knowledge of photometry, colorimetry, and automotive lighting
regulations (ECE/SAE/FMVSS).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret
simulation and photometric results.
• Experience with optical material properties, coatings, textures, and surface
finishes relevant to automotive lighting.
• Proficiency in CAD integration (CATIA/SolidWorks/NX)
for opto-mechanical
system modeling.
• Knowledge of light sources (LED, laser) and source
modeling/characterization.
• Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with advanced lighting systems — matrix LED, adaptive driving beam (ADB), pixel/DMD-based headlamps, and projector module design.
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of Zemax OpticsStudio for optical systemdesign is really appreciated.
• Familiarity with Python for simulation automation, post-processing, anddata analysis is also appreciated
• Knowledge of ODX export workflows and mechanical design integration forSpeos-Zemax Opticstudio.
• Hands-on experience correlating lab-based photometric/goniophotometer
measurements with SPEOS simulation results.
• Exposure to stray light and glare analysis in combined lighting-sensor
(camera/LiDAR) systems.
