Role Overview: Defence Equipment Test & Trials Executive
This is a niche, ex-servicemen-focused role that sits at the intersection of military field experience and private defence manufacturing. It's not a traditional test engineer job — it doesn't require an engineering degree — but rather leverages hands-on operational knowledge from service to support a company's R&D; and product validation cycle.
Core function: the person is the bridge between what engineers design and what soldiers actually need in the field. They prepare and operate equipment during trials, watch for real-world usability and reliability problems engineers might miss, and translate that into structured feedback (reports, checklists, lessons-learned).
Responsibilities, grouped
- Trial execution: pre-trial checks, setup, deployment, secure handling/transport, operating equipment during authorized demonstrations
- Evaluation & feedback: spotting operational/usability/reliability issues, basic fault diagnosis,
translating soldier's-eye view into engineering-usable feedback
- Documentation: trial reports, checklists, evaluation notes
- Liaison: coordinating between Engineering/R&D;/Project teams and defence establishment personnel during trials
- Logistics of the job itself: heavy travel, extended stays at ranges/training areas, discipline and confidentiality throughout
-
Required profile
- Retired Army OR/NCO/JCO — engineering degree explicitly not mandatory
- Preferred trades: Corps of Engineers, Combat Engineering, EME, Demolition — i.e., people who've actually maintained, fired, or handled equipment, not just administered it
- Willingness for extensive, sustained field travel — this is really a field job with a Bengaluru base, not an office job
