Responsibilities
- Diagnosis and staging: Conduct examinations, order and interpret diagnostic tests like biopsies and imaging, and determine the type and stage of cancer.
- Treatment planning: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and surgery.
- Patient and family education: Explain the diagnosis, treatment options, potential side effects, and prognosis to patients and their families.
- Care coordination: Work with other medical professionals, such as surgeons, radiologists, and pathologists, to provide comprehensive and coordinated care.
- Patient monitoring: Monitor patient progress during treatment, adjust plans as needed, and manage symptoms and side effects to improve quality of life.
- Research and development: Participate in clinical trials and research to stay updated on advancements in oncology.
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed patient medical records.
