Position Overview

The Tourism Expert will provide strategic, technical, and operational support for the planning, development, and promotion of rural tourism initiatives under the Government Tourism Department. The role focuses on sustainable tourism development, community participation, destination branding, capacity building, and livelihood enhancement in rural areas.

The expert will work closely with government agencies, local communities, private stakeholders, NGOs, and tourism service providers to design and implement rural tourism models that are economically viable, culturally sensitive, and environmentally sustainable.

Key Responsibilities1. Strategic Planning & Development
- Develop comprehensive rural tourism development plans aligned with government policies.
- Identify and assess rural tourism potential including cultural heritage, natural assets, handicrafts, cuisine, agriculture-based experiences, and eco-tourism opportunities.
- Prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), feasibility studies, and action plans.




- Design sustainable tourism models ensuring community ownership and benefit-sharing.

2. Community Engagement & Capacity Building
- Mobilize and engage local communities, self-help groups, cooperatives, and local entrepreneurs.
- Conduct training programs on hospitality, homestay management, guiding services, hygiene standards, digital marketing, and customer service.
- Facilitate skill development initiatives to enhance rural livelihoods.

3. Infrastructure & Product Development
- Recommend infrastructure improvements in coordination with relevant departments.
- Support development of homestays, village trails, cultural circuits, craft hubs, and agro-tourism experiences.
- Ensure adherence to sustainability, safety, and quality standards.

4. Marketing & Promotion
- Develop branding and promotional strategies for rural destinations.
- Coordinate with state/national tourism boards for marketing campaigns.
- Promote digital presence through webs
