Role: Mechanical CAD Designer / Design Engineer - Sheet Metal & Fabrication

Location: Chennai (Office)

Experience: 1-4 years

Responsibilities:
Create 3D models & assemblies for simple fabricated products (frames, brackets, enclosures, mounts).

Prepare manufacturing drawings: dimensions, tolerances, hole tables, cut lists, weld symbols (basic), notes.

Generate sheet-metal flat patterns and export DXF for laser cutting.

Coordinate with fabrication team on bend feasibility, tooling limits, weld access, fasteners, fit-up.

Maintain revision control: drawing numbers, versions, BOM updates, ECO changes.

Support prototypes: measure parts, correct issues, release updated drawings quickly.

Must-have skills

SolidWorks (Sheet Metal + Weldments) OR equivalent solid sheet-metal module

AutoCAD 2D for fabrication drawings

Knowledge of fabrication basics: laser cutting, CNC bending, welding, grinding, powder coating





Understanding of bend allowance / K-factor, corner reliefs, hole-to-bend rules

BOM + fasteners knowledge (rivnuts, bolts, spacers), basic GD&T; is a plus

Good-to-have

Nesting/CAM exposure: SigmaNEST / Lantek (or machine vendor nesting)

ERP/Zoho/any documentation discipline

Field measurement / site fitment experience

Qualification

Diploma/BE Mechanical (or relevant); strong hands-on portfolio can substitute.

Hiring test (highly recommended)

1-2 hour practical task: Model a small bracket/enclosure + create one fabrication drawing + DXF flat export.
