A lab assistant supports scientists, technologists, and researchers by preparing samples, conducting tests, operating specialized equipment, and maintaining meticulous records. They ensure laboratories remain organized, fully stocked, and compliant with strict safety regulations.

1. Sample Processing & Testing
- Preparation: Prepare chemical solutions, reagents, and biological or physical samples for testing.
- Collection & Labeling: Collect (e.g., blood or fluid specimens) and accurately label specimens so they are routed to the correct departments.
- Testing Execution: Assist senior staff by running routine experiments and tests while ensuring accurate data generation.

2. Equipment Maintenance & Safety
- Sterilization: Clean, sanitize, and sterilize laboratory glassware, instruments, and workstations after use to prevent cross-contamination.
- Calibration: Ensure analytical instruments and machinery are calibrated, functioning correctly, and ready for daily use.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations (such as OSHA or local equivalents),



handle biohazardous materials correctly, and safely dispose of hazardous waste.

3. Record-Keeping & Administration
- Documentation: Record test results, observations, and activities in logbooks or laboratory information management systems (LIMS) with extreme accuracy.
- Inventory Management: Monitor lab inventory, track expiration dates, and place orders for supplies to ensure the lab never runs out of necessary materials.
- Reporting: Summarize findings and report results clearly to laboratory managers or principal investigators.

4. General Lab Operations
- Setup: Set up, assemble, and dismantle apparatuses needed for group experiments, academic classes, or research projects.
- Assistance: Provide hands-on assistance to faculty, scientists, or students during lab sessions and research trials.
