A Seaman on barges or vessels is responsible for assisting in the secure navigation, maintenance, cargo operations, mooring, and daily deck activities of the vessel. The role requires physical fitness, teamwork, and adherence to maritime safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in mooring and unmooring operations
- Handle ropes, wires, anchors, and deck equipment
- Perform cargo loading and unloading support
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of deck areas
- Carry out painting, chipping, greasing, and maintenance work
- Assist officers during navigation and watchkeeping duties
- Operate lifesaving and firefighting equipment when required
- Follow safety procedures and emergency drills
- Monitor barge stability and report abnormalities
- Support engine and technical crew when necessary
- Maintain proper communication with onboard team members
- Ability to work in shifts and harsh weather conditions
- Teamwork and discipline
- Physical stamina and fitness
- Rope handling and knotting skills
- Basic communication skills in English
Qualifications
- Minimum: 10th pass / High school
- STCW Basic Safety Training preferred
- CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate) preferred
- Valid medical fitness certificate
- Experience on barges, tugboats, coastal vessels, or cargo vessels is an advantage
Experience
- 1-3 years of deck experience preferred
Work Environment
- Offshore / inland waterways / coastal operations
- Rotational duty schedule
- Long working hours depending on voyage operations
Pay: ₹8,000.00 - ₹15,000.00 per month
