Title: Assistant Manager - Plant & Machinery (Purchase)
Reports To: Manager - Plant & Machinery / Head of Supply Chain
Industry: Civil Contracting & Construction [1]
Core Responsibilities
1. Sourcing & Procurement
- Find and buy heavy construction equipment (e.g., earthmoving, lifting, and concrete machinery).
- Research new suppliers to get the best prices and quality.
- Analyze purchase bids and costs to stay within the budget.
- Handle import paperwork for overseas machinery purchases.

2. Rental & Sub-Contracting
- Rent specialized machinery for short-term project needs.
- Manage equipment rental agreements and renewals.
- Compare the cost of buying vs. renting to save money.

3. Vendor Management
- Build robust relationships with equipment dealers and parts suppliers.
- Negotiate Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs) for regular machine upkeep.
- Rate vendors based on delivery time, machine quality, and repair services.

4. Inventory & Asset Tracking
- Manage the spare parts inventory to prevent project delays.
- Track the location, usage,



and condition of all machinery across different project sites.
- Manage the disposal and auction of old or broken machinery.

5. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all purchased or rented machinery meets safety standards.
- Keep track of equipment licenses, insurance, and pollution control certificates.

Required Qualifications
- Education: Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering.
- Experience: 5 to 8 years in the construction or heavy equipment industry.

Skills Needed: Negotiation, Equipment Knowledge, Vendor Management, and basic Cost Accounting.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Cost Savings: The money you save by finding cheaper but reliable suppliers.
- Equipment Downtime: How many days projects are delayed because a machine was broken.
- Vendor TAT (Turnaround Time): How fast suppliers deliver spare parts or repair services.
- Budget Variance: Keeping actual equipment costs within the estimated budget.
