About AutoVRse
At AutoVRse, we build immersive experiences at the intersection of gaming, XR, 3D, and emerging technologies. Our work spans VR training, virtual experiences, interactive applications, and immersive entertainment, with enterprise partners including Shell, Bosch, Aditya Birla Group, Godrej, and Go-Jek.
Alongside our enterprise work, we are building original games and experiences that explore what makes virtual worlds compelling, interactive, and meaningful for players. We are a multidisciplinary team where individuals have high agency, take ownership of their work, and have the prospect to directly influence the games we create.
About GRO
GRO is our VR gardening game, with more than 200,000 lifetime users. It is a world built around the joy of gardening, discovery, and spending time in a virtual space that players can make their own.
We are now entering an exciting phase of expanding GRO’s world. We are beginning to introduce more adventure, exploration, and exciting new maps—places that invite players to wander, discover, interact, and truly get lost in the experience.
We are looking for a Senior Concept Artist to help us flesh out this world and define what its next chapter looks and feels like. The challenge is not simply to create beautiful environments. It is to create a world that feels compelling and familiar to our target audience, understands what they enjoy, and gives them reasons to keep exploring.
We want an artist who is curious about our players: what makes them tick, what they find satisfying, what kinds of spaces they want to inhabit, and what makes a virtual world feel like a place they belong. You should be willing to learn their language, understand their motivations, and immerse yourself in their world so that the environments we create feel made for them—not alien to them.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Concept Artist to join our Game Studio and play a key role in shaping the visual identity, world-building, and artistic direction of GRO. This is a role for an artist who thinks like a designer. You should be able to look beyond the visual appeal of a concept and ask: How will the player experience this? What will they do here? What makes this interaction satisfying? How does this space support the gameplay, and why would our players want to spend time in it?
You will work closely with Game Designers, 3D Artists, Animators, Developers, and the broader Art team to translate gameplay ideas into compelling visual concepts that are both exciting and functional. You will help bring the Game Design team’s vision to life, while contributing your own ideas and ensuring that the world remains cohesive, readable, and engaging for our target audience.
We value artists who can take ownership, work independently, and move quickly from an initial idea through exploration, iteration, and 3D blockouts to a clear visual direction.
You should be comfortable using any 3D software of your choosing to rapidly explore ideas and solve problems, rather than relying only on polished 2D illustrations.
This is not a role where you will simply receive a brief and execute artwork. You will have meaningful agency to influence the game, challenge assumptions, propose solutions, and help shape the worlds and experiences our players will ultimately inhabit.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
World-building and visual direction
● Define and evolve the visual style, aesthetic direction, and overall look and feel of GRO’s world.
● Develop concepts for new maps, environments, adventure spaces, exploration areas, characters, props, and interactive elements.
● Establish visual directions that balance imagination and novelty with the familiarity and emotional appeal that resonate with GRO’s players.
Design thinking and player experience
● Work closely with Game Designers to understand gameplay goals, player interactions, and the intended experience before developing visual solutions.
● Approach creative problems through both an artistic and functional lens, considering how spaces and objects will actually be used by players.
● Think through player perspective, navigation, readability, scale, interaction affordances, and the flow of an experience in VR.
● Help design satisfying VR interactions by considering how visual form, feedback, placement, and environmental context support player actions.
● Ask the right questions about player motivation and behavior, and use those insights to make stronger creative decisions.
● Ensure that visual concepts support the game’s mechanics and emotional goals rather than existing only as standalone artwork.
Concept development and production
● Create high-quality sketches, visual explorations, storyboards, style frames, and polished concepts to communicate ideas.
● Rapidly explore multiple directions using digital painting, 3D blockouts, kitbashing, photobashing, paintovers, or other effective workflows.
● Translate rough gameplay ideas into clear, compelling, and production-feasible concepts.
● Collaborate with 3D Artists and other production teams to ensure concepts can be accurately and practically translated into game-ready assets.
● Provide clear visual references, design callouts, and direction that help the team maintain consistency throughout production.
● Present creative ideas effectively, incorporate feedback constructively, and iterate without losing sight of the underlying design intent.
What We’re Looking For
● 4+ years of professional experience as a Concept Artist, Visual Development Artist, Game Artist, or in a closely related role.
● A strong and relevant portfolio demonstrating concept development, visual exploration, world-building, and design thinking.
● Excellent artistic fundamentals,
including composition, colour, lighting, perspective, form, anatomy, scale, and visual storytelling.Being able to work in 3D is a huge positive.
● A demonstrated ability to take a rough idea and develop it into a clear, compelling visual direction through multiple iterations.
● Strong design thinking and the ability to understand gameplay requirements, player interactions, and functional constraints.
● The ability to think from the player’s perspective and create environments that serve the intended experience, not just the visual aesthetic.
● Curiosity about target audiences and a willingness to deeply understand what motivates players and what makes a world resonate with them.
● Strong communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
● The ability to work independently, take initiative, and contribute meaningfully to creative and design decisions.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in relevant creative tools and workflows, such as:
● Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator
● Blender, 3ds Max, or other 3D modelling software
● Digital painting and illustration
● Concept-art and visual-development workflows
● Rapid 3D blockouts and iterative visual exploration
We care more about your ability to use the right tools to explore and communicate strong ideas than about proficiency in any one specific 3D package.
Good to Have
● Professional experience working on VR/AR or immersive experiences.
● Understanding of VR-specific visual and interaction principles, including scale, comfort, readability, and player perspective.
● Experience in game development pipelines.
● Familiarity with Unity or Unreal Engine.
● Understanding of how concept art translates into 3D production and real-time environments.
● Experience working on multiplayer or interactive game experiences.
● Experience designing environments that support exploration, discovery, or player-driven gameplay.
Why Join AutoVRse?
You’ll have the opportunity to shape the next chapter of GRO. You’ll work in a team where artists are not simply executors of predefined briefs. You’ll have the agency to influence the game directly, collaborate closely with designers and developers, and contribute to decisions that shape the player experience.
If you enjoy building worlds, thinking deeply about how players interact with them, and creating spaces that people genuinely want to spend time in, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a live game.
Work Environment
This is an on-site role based out of our Bangalore office. You’ll collaborate closely with our Game, Art, Design, and Engineering teams.
