Company Description
SMC RMC is a ready-mix concrete operation based in Kalaburagi (Gulbarga), focused on delivering consistent, reliable, and quality-controlled concrete for construction projects. The company emphasizes concrete performance, raw material quality, batching accuracy, production consistency, and continuous improvement in mix efficiency and overall concrete quality.
Role Description The QC Engineer – RMC Plant will be responsible for managing the quality control and concrete technology activities at the RMC plant. The role involves developing, reviewing, and optimizing concrete mix designs, monitoring raw material quality, controlling batching parameters, reviewing strength results, and ensuring consistency across all concrete batches.
The QC Engineer will take responsibility for mix design, trial mixes, slump control, cube testing, moisture correction, aggregate grading, admixture optimization, cement consumption, and concrete strength analysis. The role also requires identifying and resolving issues such as low strength, excessive slump variation, segregation, bleeding, cracking, or inconsistent batch performance.
The candidate will work closely with Plant Operations, Production, Procurement, Project, and Site teams to improve concrete quality, reduce wastage, optimize material consumption, and maintain compliance with applicable standards.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Kalaburagi (Gulbarga), Karnataka.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and optimize concrete mix designs for different grades and applications.
- Conduct trial mixes and modify mixes to achieve required strength, workability, durability, pumpability, and cost efficiency.
- Monitor the quality of cement, aggregates, M-sand, water, admixtures, and other raw materials.
- Ensure concrete production follows approved mix designs and QC procedures.
- Monitor slump, temperature, workability, cube casting, curing, and compressive strength testing.
- Review 7-day and 28-day cube strength results and identify trends or deviations.
- Perform or supervise sieve analysis, moisture correction, water absorption, and other material tests.
- Optimize cement and admixture consumption without compromising concrete performance.
- Monitor batching accuracy and coordinate calibration of weigh batchers, admixture dispensers, and laboratory equipment.
- Investigate quality deviations, rejected loads, strength failures, segregation, bleeding, cracking, and workability-related issues.
- Carry out root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with site teams regarding transit time, pumping requirements, workability retention, and concrete placement conditions.
- Maintain mix design records, test reports, strength results, calibration records, and batch-quality documentation.
- Monitor concrete quality, rejection, wastage, and material consumption and suggest improvements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant IS standards and project specifications.
Qualifications
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 10–15 years of relevant experience in RMC, concrete technology, batching plants, or construction-material quality control.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of concrete mix design and RMC production quality control.
- Good understanding of IS 10262, IS 456, IS 4926 and other applicable concrete standards.
- Robust knowledge of concrete materials, admixtures, workability, strength development, and durability.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot concrete quality issues.
- Experience in improving mix performance and optimizing material consumption.
- Strong analytical, numerical, documentation, and coordination skills.
- Good knowledge of MS Excel and QC reporting.
- Prior experience in an RMC plant is strongly preferred.
