Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Purchase Manager to manage procurement of FMCG and food products for our trading and distribution business.

The candidate will be responsible for supplier identification, price negotiation, purchase planning, margins, schemes, credit terms, inventory availability, stock rotation and supplier relationships.

The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of the FMCG market and an established network of FMCG companies, distributors, wholesalers and food suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

- Source FMCG and food products from manufacturers, authorized distributors, super-stockists and wholesalers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with FMCG/food suppliers and principals.
- Negotiate the best purchase price, trade margins, schemes, discounts, credit period, freight and payment terms.
- Regularly compare supplier rates and market prices to ensure competitive buying.
- Identify recent brands/products with good market demand and trading margins.
- Prepare purchase plans based on sales, market demand, stock levels and inventory turnover.
- Ensure uninterrupted availability of fast-moving products.
- Monitor stock ageing, expiry, near-expiry and slow-moving inventory and take corrective action.
- Negotiate special schemes and liquidation deals for slow-moving/short-dated products wherever commercially viable.
- Coordinate with the Sales, Warehouse, Accounts and Management teams to plan purchases.
- Verify supplier invoices, purchase rates, schemes, discounts and credit notes.




- Ensure that all purchases are made from reliable and approved suppliers.
- Maintain updated records of supplier prices, schemes, product lists, MOQ and credit terms.
- Track market movements, competitor pricing and changes in FMCG product prices.
- Evaluate new suppliers and negotiate commercial terms before onboarding.
- Develop alternate suppliers to reduce dependency on a single source.
- Monitor supplier performance with respect to price, quality, availability and delivery.
- Coordinate timely delivery of goods to the warehouse.
- Resolve issues relating to shortages, damages, expiry, incorrect billing and rate differences.
- Work closely with the sales team to understand SKU-wise demand and market requirements.

Qualification & Experience

- Graduate in Commerce, Business Administration, Supply Chain or a related field.
- 6–10 years of experience in FMCG purchase/procurement, preferably with an FMCG trading, distribution or wholesale company.
- Strong existing supplier network will be highly preferred.
- Experience in negotiating with manufacturers, super-stockists, distributors and wholesalers.
- Good knowledge of FMCG pricing, schemes and market dynamics.
- Strong Excel/Google Sheets and MIS skills.
