: Nursing Superintendent

Position Summary The Nursing Superintendent serves as the chief administrative and clinical leader of the hospital's nursing department. This role is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all nursing services across the facility. The primary objective is to maintain exceptional standards of patient care, ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, manage nursing budgets, and foster a supportive, professional environment for all nursing staff.

Core Responsibilities

1. Administrative & Departmental Leadership

- Oversee all nursing personnel across various departments, intensive care units (ICUs), operating theatres (OTs), and outpatient departments (OPDs).
- Develop, implement, and update nursing policies, procedures, and clinical protocols in alignment with current healthcare standards.
- Determine staffing requirements, oversee recruitment, and manage the roster to ensure optimal patient-to-nurse ratios.
- Prepare and manage the annual budget for the nursing department, controlling expenditures for medical supplies and equipment.

2. Clinical Quality & Patient Safety

- Maintain high standards of nursing care and patient safety, ensuring strict adherence to infection control protocols and hospital guidelines.
- Supervise standard compliance for national and international healthcare accreditations (e.g., NABH, JCI).
- Investigate and resolve patient grievances, clinical incidents, or medication errors, implementing corrective actions immediately.
- Conduct regular clinical audits and ward rounds to assess nursing performance and care quality.

3. Staff Development & Welfare

- Design and implement orientation programmes for new nursing staff and continuous nursing education (CNE) modules.




- Conduct annual performance appraisals for nursing supervisors, head nurses, and staff nurses, identifying candidates for promotion.
- Address staff grievances, manage conflicts, and promote a healthy, collaborative, and safe work culture.

4. Interdepartmental Liaison

- Coordinate closely with the Medical Superintendent, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and departmental heads to ensure seamless hospital operations.
- Represent the nursing department in executive management meetings and hospital committees (e.g., Infection Control Committee, Quality Council).

Key Requirements & Qualifications

- Education:
- M.Sc. in Nursing or B.Sc. in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- A Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Administration or Healthcare Management is highly preferred.
- Active registration with the State Nursing Council or relevant national nursing board.
- Experience:
- A minimum of 10 to 15 years of clinical nursing experience.
- At least 5+ years in a senior managerial or administrative role (e.g., Deputy Nursing Superintendent, Assistant Nursing Superintendent, or Nursing Supervisor) in a well-established hospital.
- Key Skills:
- Exceptional leadership, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
- Deep understanding of healthcare quality standards (like NABH or JCI regulations).
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Solid budgetary, analytical, and crisis-management capabilities.

Reporting Structure

- Reports to: Medical Superintendent / Chief Executive Officer (CEO) / Director of the Hospital.

Direct Reports: Deputy Nursing Superintendents, Assistant Nursing Superintendents, Nursing Supervisors, and Infection Control Nurses Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
