A Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for converting physicians’ and other healthcare professionals’ voice recordings into accurate, properly formatted medical documents. The role requires solid knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, and healthcare documentation standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Transcribe medical reports, patient histories, discharge summaries, consultation notes, and other clinical documents.
- Listen to dictated recordings and accurately convert them into written medical reports.
- Proofread and edit transcribed documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and medical accuracy.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with healthcare privacy and data-security requirements.
- Verify medical terminology, medications, diagnoses, procedures, and abbreviations.
- Format reports according to client or healthcare-facility guidelines.
- Review and correct transcription errors before submitting completed reports.
- Meet required accuracy, productivity, and turnaround-time targets.
- Use transcription software, electronic medical record (EMR/EHR) systems,



and word-processing tools.
- Communicate with healthcare professionals or quality teams when clarification is required.

Required Skills
- Excellent English grammar, spelling, and listening skills.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
- Good typing speed and high accuracy.
- Attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies.
- Familiarity with medical abbreviations and clinical documentation.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Basic computer and MS Office skills.
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and healthcare data protection.
