About Vectis

Vectis is a technology law firm launched in April, 2026. Our clients are funded startups, typically seed to Series C, building in AI, energy, robotics, IoT and software. We operate as product counsel and assist with large commercial transactions: understanding what the product actually does, then mapping the commercial terms onto it so that revenue, risk and failure points are all visible to the client. We also do corporate transactions from time to time.

The firm is AI-native. Our workflows are built around AI tools from the ground up, on the conviction that they make good lawyers better (and, unfortunately, bad lawyers worse) rather than replacing them.

We are a operate as a small, sharp unit so everyone works directly with clients in some capacity.

The role

You will work alongside the team across the firm's matters. The work falls into five areas:

1. Drafting. First drafts of agreements (SaaS, licensing, services, partnership; occasionally other arrangements too), data protection agreements and privacy documentation.
2. Review. Reviewing counterparty paper, identifying what matters, and writing up your reasoning in a form a client can act on.
3. Research. Legal research on Indian and cross-border questions, with primary-source citations and a clear answer.
4. Proof reading. You will be required to run the pre-final read of documentation that is prepared by another lawyer. You are expected to be able to do this with the utmost focus and diligence from the get-go.
5. Thought leadership. Contributing to the firm's thought leadership initiatives; we encourage you to pick a stream that works for you and we do our best to empower you in this.
6. Discovery initiatives. Getting under the hood of a new technology,



sector or practice area before a client needs us to, and turning what you learn into something the firm can use.

What we are looking for

1. Curiosity about how technology actually works, and the patience to read documentation until you understand it.
2. Clear, exact writing. If you cannot explain a clause in plain language, you do not yet understand it.
3. Extreme diligence and organisation. This is a requirement, not a preference. The work depends on nothing being dropped, every loop being closed, and every file being where it should be.
4. Willingness to work with AI tools every day, and the judgment to know when they are wrong.
5. A law degree and enrolment with a State Bar Council (or eligibility to enrol on graduation).
6. Experience is welcome but not required. Fresh graduates and lawyers with a few years of practice are equally welcome.

What we are not looking for

1. General corporate or corporate transaction specific practitioners that are looking to continue on that specialised track rather than advance their expertise on working with technology.
2. Someone who wants a narrow specialism from day one, we believe that early years of a practice must be broad by design.
3. Someone who treats review as a checklist. We want to know why a clause matters, not just that it deviates.
4. Someone who finds the technology side of technology law tedious.

How we work

1. You will be trained on the firm's operating practice, which ranges from how work is handed off, how reasoning is recorded, and what review you can expect on your drafts.
2. Feedback is considered pivotal to improvement so we encourage direct, but polite and well mannered, communication within the team.
3. You will be in front of clients early, with support. You will need to be able to present yourself accordingly.
