About the Role /n Office Beacon is looking for a Junior Backend Node.js Engineer to help build, maintain, and support backend APIs, services, integrations, and product workflows. /n This role is suited to an engineer with strong JavaScript and/or TypeScript fundamentals, practical Node.js backend development experience, and an interest in building reliable and maintainable product features. /n You will work with frontend developers, QA engineers, product managers, and other engineers to develop backend functionality, integrate external services, troubleshoot issues, and improve application reliability. /n Key Responsibilities /n Backend Development /n /n

- Develop and maintain backend APIs and services using Node.js.

/n

- Build REST APIs supporting product features and business workflows.

/n

- Implement backend business logic and reusable services.

/n

- Structure backend applications using appropriate modules, controllers, services, middleware, and routing.

/n

- Write clean, readable, reusable, and maintainable code.

/n /n API Development & Integrations /n /n

- Design and develop reliable REST APIs.

/n

- Work with HTTP requests, responses, validation, and error handling.

/n

- Integrate third-party APIs and external services.

/n

- Support authentication and authorization mechanisms.

/n

- Work with APIs using tools such as Postman, Swagger, or Insomnia.

/n /n Database Development /n /n

- Work with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar technologies.

/n

- Create and maintain database schemas and queries.

/n

- Use ORM or database tools such as Prisma, Sequelize, TypeORM, Mongoose, or similar.

- Assist with query optimization and database-related troubleshooting.

/n /n Testing & Debugging /n /n

- Troubleshoot backend issues and investigate application errors.

/n

- Fix bugs and participate in regression testing.

/n

- Support unit and integration testing.

/n

- Help improve the reliability and quality of backend services.

/n /n Security & Authentication /n /n

- Implement and maintain appropriate authentication and authorization mechanisms.

/n

- Work with technologies such as JWT, OAuth, sessions, or role-based access control.

/n

- Follow established application security and data-protection practices.

/n /n Engineering & Collaboration /n /n

- Use Git-based workflows for source control and collaboration.

/n

- Participate in code reviews and apply feedback.

/n

- Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, and product managers.

/n

- Communicate technical issues and development progress clearly.

/n

- Follow established software development and product engineering practices.

/n /n Must-Have Qualifications /n /n

- 1–3 years of professional backend development experience using Node.js.

/n

- Robust JavaScript and/or TypeScript fundamentals.

/n

- Hands-on experience building and maintaining REST APIs.

/n

- Practical experience with at least one Node.js backend framework such as Express.js, NestJS, Fastify,



or a similar framework.

/n

- Understanding of backend concepts including routing, middleware, controllers, services, request/response handling, validation, and error handling.

/n

- Hands-on experience with at least one database such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar.

/n

- Familiarity with an ORM or database abstraction tool such as Prisma, Sequelize, TypeORM, Mongoose, or similar.

/n

- Experience using API testing/documentation tools such as Postman, Swagger, or Insomnia.

/n

- Familiarity with Git and collaborative workflows such as branches and pull requests.

/n

- Basic understanding of authentication and authorization, including JWT, OAuth, sessions, or role-based access control.

/n

- Ability to troubleshoot backend issues and communicate technical findings clearly.

/n

- Understanding of standard software development and product engineering practices.

/n /n Preferred Qualifications /n /n

- Experience with Redis, queues, background jobs, or scheduled tasks.

/n

- Experience integrating services such as Gmail API, Google Calendar API, Stripe, Auth0, or OpenAI APIs.

/n

- Experience with Docker and containerized applications.

/n

- Exposure to AWS, GCP, Azure, Render, Railway, or similar cloud/deployment platforms.

/n

- Experience writing automated tests using Jest, Mocha, Supertest, or similar frameworks.

/n

- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

/n

- Experience working with asynchronous processing and backend job queues.

/n

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
