Key Responsibilities
1.
Fabric
Development
- Understand buyer requirements, tech packs, fabric specifications, construction, composition, GSM, width, finish, and performance requirements.
- Source and develop fabrics as per buyer specifications and garment requirements.
- Coordinate fabric development with mills and suppliers.
- Arrange fabric swatches, hanger sets, lab dips, strike-offs, and other development submissions.
- Follow up on buyer approvals and comments and ensure timely implementation.
2.
Fabric
Sourcing
- Identify and develop reliable fabric mills and suppliers.
- Obtain quotations and negotiate fabric prices, lead times, MOQ, and payment terms.
- Compare supplier quotations and select suitable sources based on quality, price, capacity, and delivery capability.
- Maintain a database of approved mills and fabric suppliers.
- Develop alternative suppliers wherever required to reduce sourcing risks.
3. Costing &
- Commercial Management
- Prepare fabric costing based on construction, composition, GSM, width, finish, dyeing/printing, and other processes.
- Negotiate fabric prices with suppliers to achieve target costing.
- Monitor fabric price fluctuations and communicate cost impacts to the merchandising/commercial team.
- Ensure fabric purchases are commercially viable and within approved budgets.
4. Order &
- Production Follow-up
- Place fabric orders with approved suppliers after receiving necessary approvals.
- Monitor fabric booking, greige availability, dyeing, finishing, and production status.
- Maintain fabric T&A; and ensure all critical dates are achieved.
- Follow up regularly with mills for production and delivery status.
- Identify potential delays and take corrective action proactively.
- Coordinate fabric delivery with factory production plans.
5.
Fabric
Quality &
- Testing
- Ensure bulk fabric meets approved standards and buyer requirements.
- Coordinate fabric inspection and quality evaluation with the QA/QC team.
- Follow up on fabric testing such as shrinkage, colorfastness, GSM, dimensional stability, pilling, composition, and other buyer-specific requirements.
- Resolve fabric quality issues with suppliers and ensure corrective action.
- Ensure bulk production matches approved fabric standards and hand feel.
6. Coordination with Internal Teams
- Work closely with garment merchandisers to understand order requirements and delivery schedules.
- Coordinate with production planning, sourcing, quality, stores, and commercial teams.
- Provide accurate fabric status updates to management.
- Ensure sufficient fabric availability before production starts.
- Coordinate fabric allocation and delivery according to production priorities.
7. Documentation &
- MIS
- Maintain accurate records of fabric enquiries, developments, approvals, orders, deliveries, and quality reports.
- Prepare regular fabric status reports and T&A; updates.
- Maintain supplier performance records.
- Track pending approvals, production status, shipment schedules, and outstanding issues.
- Ensure all fabric-related documentation is properly maintained.
