Duty Medical Officer – Roles & Responsibilities
Shri Ishari Velan Mission Hospital, Thalambur
- Provide medical care and treatment to patients attending the hospital, including OPD and emergency cases.
- Conduct patient examination, prepare case histories, and assess clinical conditions.
- Diagnose common illnesses and provide appropriate treatment as per clinical protocols.
- Attend to emergency and critical cases and initiate immediate medical management when required.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and clinical progress and arrange referrals or specialist consultations when necessary.
- Prescribe medicines, investigations, and other treatments appropriately.
- Review laboratory and diagnostic reports and correlate findings with the patient’s clinical condition.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient medical records, case sheets, prescriptions, and treatment notes.
- Coordinate with consultants, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals for effective patient care.
- Ensure proper follow-up and continuity of treatment for patients.
- Follow hospital policies, infection-control procedures, patient-safety standards, and medical ethics.
- Participate in ward rounds, emergency duties, health camps, and other hospital medical activities as assigned.
- Provide guidance and support to junior medical and nursing staff when required.
- Educate patients and attendants regarding medication, treatment, preventive care, and follow-up requirements.
- Ensure timely reporting of medical incidents, emergencies, and other significant clinical observations to the concerned authority.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and qualified standards at all times.
- Perform any other medical duties assigned by the Medical Superintendent / Hospital Management.
