Role Description The CNC Machine Shop Manager / Lead is a full-time, in office role based in Vadodara. This role is responsible for overseeing daily CNC shop operations, including planning and assigning work, monitoring production schedules, and ensuring that machining outputs meet quality and safety standards. The manager/lead sets up and optimizes CNC programs and tooling, supervises machine operators, and coordinates maintenance to minimize downtime.

Day-to-day tasks include reviewing technical drawings, verifying dimensions, resolving machining issues, managing inventory of materials and tools, and maintaining clear documentation of production activities. The role also involves collaborating with engineering and quality teams, implementing process improvements, and training team members to enhance efficiency and consistency.

Primary Objective: Direct daily machine shop operations, program and optimize multi-axis CNC machines (milling, turning, routing), lead machinists and operators, and ensure safety, high throughput, and tight dimensional tolerances.

Core Responsibilities

- CNC Programming & Setup: Generate, verify, and optimize 2D/3D and multi-axis toolpaths & write G-code/M-code directly.
- Shop Floor Leadership:



Supervise machine operators, set setup schedules, assign daily work orders, and mentor apprentice machinists.
- Process Optimization & Tooling: Select optimal cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and fixtures to minimize cycle times and tool wear while preventing machine crashes.
- Quality & Tolerance Control: Enforce first-piece inspection protocols using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM; maintain scrap rates below shop targets.
- Preventive Maintenance: Oversee routine machine lubrication, coolant maintenance, axis calibration, and schedule major repairs with outside technicians.

Qualifications

- Strong CNC machining and machine shop management skills, including setup, programming oversight, and optimization of CNC equipment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, engineering specifications, and tolerance requirements.
- Experience implementing and maintaining quality control processes, inspection methods, and adherence to safety standards.
- Ability to lead and supervise a team, manage shift schedules, delegate tasks, and coach staff for performance and skills development.
- Competence in production planning, workflow coordination, and inventory management for tools, materials, and consumables.
- Solid problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address machining issues, equipment faults, and process bottlenecks.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineering, quality, and management teams.
- Prior experience in a precision manufacturing environment; exposure to instrumentation or industrial components is an advantage.
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Comfort with basic computer tools and manufacturing documentation, such as production reports and work instructions.
