CAT Modelling Lead (AVP)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced CAT Modelling Lead to drive the strategic evolution of our catastrophe modelling capability. This role will be responsible for leading large multi-functional CAT modelling team, driving process transformation across CAT modelling value chains, embedding Agentic AI and automation into operations, advancing CAT strategy, and leading research initiatives related to climate change, emerging risks, and model innovation.

The successful candidate will act as a strategic leader, partnering with underwriting, exposure management, portfolio management, reinsurance, actuarial, and data science teams to enhance catastrophe risk assessment and business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

CAT Modelling Leadership

- Lead and manage large CAT modelling teams across multiple Lines of Business, regions, and portfolios.
- Establish scalable operating models, governance frameworks, and best practices across CAT modelling operations.
- Drive delivery excellence across account modelling, portfolio roll-ups, reinsurance modelling, reporting, and exposure management activities.
- Develop talent strategy, capability-building programs, and succession plans for CAT modelling teams.

Process Transformation & Operational Excellence

- Lead end-to-end CAT modelling process transformation initiatives.
- Standardise and optimise workflows across pre-quote, post-bind, portfolio accumulation, reinsurance, and reporting activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve quality, turnaround time, scalability, and business outcomes.
- Establish KPIs, performance dashboards, and continuous improvement frameworks.

Agentic AI & Automation Strategy

- Drive adoption of Agentic AI, GenAI, workflow automation, and intelligent decision-support solutions within CAT modelling operations.
- Partner with technology, analytics, and AI teams to identify and implement innovative use cases.
- Lead the transformation of manual modelling activities into AI-enabled workflows while maintaining governance and human oversight.




- Evaluate recent technologies, vendor capabilities, and modelling ecosystem enhancements to improve effectiveness and efficiency.

CAT Risk Strategy

- Support accumulation management, portfolio optimisation, reinsurance strategy, PML analysis, and capital management.
- Provide insights on CAT risk trends, profitability, exposure concentrations, and strategic business implications.
- Collaborate with underwriting and risk leadership teams to support business planning and portfolio growth initiatives.
- Develop strategic recommendations based on catastrophe risk analysis and market developments.

Climate Change & Emerging Risk Research

- Lead research initiatives on climate change impacts, emerging perils, and evolving catastrophe risk landscapes.
- Evaluate scientific, regulatory, and market developments affecting catastrophe exposure.
- Assess implications of climate trends on catastrophe models, risk appetite, portfolio strategy, and underwriting decisions.
- Identify novel data sources and analytical techniques to improve risk assessment capabilities.

Model Change & R&D;

- Perform analysis of CAT model releases, vendor updates, and methodology changes.
- Assess business impact of model changes on portfolios, pricing, accumulation management, and reinsurance.
- Lead model validation, benchmarking, sensitivity analysis, and scenario testing initiatives.
- Drive continuous innovation through research, experimentation, and proof-of-concept development.

Stakeholder Management

- Engage directly with underwriting leadership, exposure management, actuarial teams, brokers, and reinsurers.
- Present analytical findings and strategic recommendations to senior business stakeholders.




- Act as a trusted advisor on catastrophe risk strategy and transformation initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Experience

- 12-18+ years of experience in CAT Modelling, Exposure Management, Risk Analytics, or related insurance functions.
- Proven experience managing large global CAT modelling teams.
- Experience leading large-scale transformation programs within Insurance, Reinsurance, or London Market environments.
- Demonstrated experience driving automation, AI adoption, or digital transformation initiatives.

Technical Expertise

- Deep knowledge of CAT modelling methodologies and catastrophe risk assessment.
- Strong understanding of RMS, Moody's RMS, AIR/Touchstone, Verisk platforms, CyberCube, or equivalent tools.
- Experience with Python, SQL, R, Power BI, or advanced analytical tools.
- Familiarity with exposure management, accumulation control, portfolio optimisation, and reinsurance structures.

Leadership & Strategy

- Strong people leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence senior executives and drive strategic initiatives.
- Experience building high-performing teams and managing multi-location delivery models.
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to connect CAT insights with business outcomes.

Preferred Skills

- Experience in Lloyd's and London Market insurance.
- Knowledge of Agentic AI, GenAI, workflow automation, and intelligent operations.
- Experience in climate risk analytics and ESG-related catastrophe risk assessment.
- Exposure to portfolio strategy, capital modelling, or actuarial functions.
- Consulting or transformation leadership experience preferred.
