About The Role
We are looking for a Business Manager – Finance, Operations &
- Governance to work closely with the CEO and leadership team, taking ownership of financial reporting, business operations, governance, risk coordination, investor reporting, and commercial oversight.
This is a broad, hands-on role suited to a commercially minded finance professional who can go beyond accounting and build processes, reporting systems, and operating rhythms from the ground up.
The ideal candidate will bring strong financial acumen, excellent attention to detail, sound judgement, and the ability to independently manage sensitive financial, investor, and operational information.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management &
- Reporting
- Own monthly and periodic financial reporting, including P&L;, balance sheet, cash flow and financial projections.
- Build, maintain and analyse cash flow models, budgets and financial forecasts.
- Support the annual budgeting and financial planning cycle.
- Monitor financial performance, identify variances and provide actionable insights to the leadership team.
- Oversee finance operations including payroll and general financial administration.
Statutory, Tax &
- Regulatory Compliance
- Coordinate statutory and tax administration, including VAT and R&D; tax credit claims.
- Work closely with external accountants, tax advisors and relevant professional advisors.
- Maintain accurate financial and regulatory records.
- Support compliance requirements and FCA-adjacent regulatory considerations, where applicable.
Investor &
- Board Reporting
- Maintain the cap table and investor register, including relevant investment terms and side letters.
- Prepare investor updates, board packs and financial reporting materials.
- Support capital raise processes and investor due diligence.
- Ensure financial and operational information provided to investors and the board is accurate, timely and well presented.
Commercial &
- Vendor Management
- Oversee vendor and third-party contracts, including:
- Commercial terms
- Service-level agreements
- Renewal dates
- Costs and commitments
- Maintain appropriate visibility of contractual obligations and upcoming renewals.
- Support commercial negotiations and ensure appropriate internal approvals are obtained.
Technology &
- Infrastructure Oversight
- Provide commercial and governance oversight of technology infrastructure and third-party technology vendors.
- Track infrastructure costs, vendor performance, service levels and contract renewals.
- Work with relevant internal stakeholders to ensure technology-related commercial commitments are appropriately managed.
Risk &
- Governance
- Maintain the operational risk book in coordination with the Head of Risk.
- Support regular review of operational and compliance risks.
- Establish clear escalation paths and ownership for operational issues.
- Develop and maintain practical business policies and procedures.
Business Operations &
- Process Building
- Build and improve operating processes across finance, commercial operations and governance.
- Establish a consistent reporting rhythm covering:
- Monthly: Board and investor reporting
- Quarterly: Risk book review
- Annually: Budgeting and business planning
- Develop and maintain policies covering expense management, contract sign-off authority, data retention, vendor onboarding/offboarding and escalation procedures.
- Identify operational gaps proactively and implement scalable processes.
Qualifications &
- Experience
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) preferred.
- Typically 6 years of post-qualification experience in finance, business operations, financial control, FP&A; or a related area.
- Strong experience in financial reporting, cash flow management, forecasting, budgeting and finance operations.
- Strong financial modelling skills, with the ability to build and interrogate:
- Cash flow models
- Financial projections
- Budgets
- Cap tables
- Experience with statutory and tax administration, including VAT.
- Comfortable working with regulatory, compliance and governance requirements.
- Experience managing vendors, contracts, commercial terms and SLAs.
- Experience with investor reporting, board reporting, fundraising or due diligence will be an advantage.
- Experience in FinTech, WealthTech, Financial Services, SaaS, Technology or a regulated/start-up environment will be preferred.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
