Role Overview

ASCENRA Technologies is building a DPDP Consent Manager that enables individuals to manage their consent and organisations to collect, manage and honour data-principal rights.

As a Backend Engineer II, you will own and strengthen the backend platform, work closely with the Head of Engineering, and contribute to architecture, engineering standards and scalable backend systems. This role involves solving complex problems around privacy, data security, auditability and distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Own the backend services supporting the complete consent lifecycle — notice, grant, review, renewal and withdrawal.
- Design and maintain append-only, tamper-evident consent and withdrawal records.
- Build reliable event-driven systems using Kafka/MSK and idempotent consumers.
- Design PostgreSQL/Aurora data models with strong multi-tenant isolation.
- Develop and maintain versioned REST APIs using OpenAPI 3.0.
- Build and maintain microservices on AWS/ECS.
- Implement secure authentication and authorization using OAuth2, JWT/JWE and mTLS.
- Establish high standards for testing, CI/CD, observability and audit logging.
- Participate in architecture decisions and document technical decisions through ADRs.
- Review code, improve engineering practices and mentor junior backend engineers.
- Support the transition and knowledge transfer from the existing external engineering partner.

Required Qualifications

- 6–8 years of experience building and running production backend systems.
- At least 2 years in a Senior/Lead Individual Contributor role or equivalent experience.
- Strong production experience with TypeScript/Node.js or Go, with the ability to work comfortably in both.
- Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including data modelling,



migrations and query optimisation.
- Production experience with Kafka or comparable event-streaming technologies.
- Experience with microservices and AWS, preferably ECS.
- Understanding of Infrastructure as Code, observability and cloud cost considerations.
- Hands-on experience implementing OAuth2, JWT/JWE and/or mTLS.
- Strong understanding of testing, CI/CD and software design practices.
- Ability to make and document architectural decisions independently.
