Job Purpose The Assistant Professor in the Department of General Medicine will be responsible for teaching and training MBBS students and other learners, participating in patient care and clinical services, supporting departmental academic activities, and contributing to research and institutional responsibilities.
The faculty member will work closely with the Head of the Department and other faculty members in delivering competency-based medical education and maintaining the academic and clinical standards expected of a teaching institution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Academic Responsibilities The Assistant Professor will be expected to:
- Conduct lectures, tutorials, small-group discussions and other teaching sessions for MBBS students.
- Conduct bedside teaching and clinical demonstrations in OPD,
wards and other clinical areas.
- Participate in the implementation of the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum.
- Facilitate case discussions, clinical demonstrations and integrated teaching sessions.
- Participate in Self-Directed Learning (SDL), AETCOM and other academic activities as per the institutional curriculum.
- Conduct formative and internal assessments and provide appropriate academic feedback to students.
- Participate in practical, clinical and university examinations, including OSCE/other assessment methods, as and when assigned.
- Guide and mentor students in their academic and professional development.
- Maintain teaching schedules, attendance records, assessment records and other departmental academic documentation.
2. Clinical Responsibilities The faculty member will be required to actively participate in patient care services of the Department of General Medicine.
Responsibilities may include
- Providing clinical care to patients in the Outpatient Department (OPD) and inpatient wards.
- Participating in ward rounds and clinical discussions.
- Managing patients admitted under the Department of General Medicine in accordance with institutional protocols.
- Participating in emergency and on-call duties as per departmental requirements.
- Supervising and guiding postgraduate students, residents, interns and junior doctors,
wherever applicable.
- Maintaining appropriate clinical documentation and medical records.
- Ensuring adherence to patient safety, infection-control and professional standards.
- Participating in multidisciplinary patient-care discussions and referrals, wherever required.
3. Research and Academic Development The Assistant Professor will be encouraged to:
- Participate in departmental and institutional research activities.
- Undertake research projects independently or jointly with other faculty members.
- Publish research work in recognised/indexed journals.
- Present academic and research work at conferences, workshops and professional meetings.
- Guide undergraduate research projects and other student academic activities, as applicable.
- Participate in research methodology and biomedical research training programmes.
4. Departmental and Institutional Responsibilities The faculty member will be expected to:
- Assist the Head of Department in the smooth functioning of academic and clinical activities.
- Participate in departmental meetings and academic programmes.
- Contribute to the preparation and implementation of departmental teaching plans.
- Participate in faculty development programmes and Medical Education Unit activities.
- Serve on institutional and departmental committees as assigned.
- Participate in quality assurance, accreditation and regulatory activities.
- Maintain all professional, academic and regulatory records required by the institution.
- Comply with institutional policies, professional ethics and applicable regulatory requirements. Role & responsibilities
